Set on the quayside in Dundee, the city that “enjoys perhaps the finest location of any in Scotland” (Lonely Planet), the stylish Apex City Quay Hotel and Spa has impressive waterfront views -- many rooms overlook the River Tay.
Gorgeous views aside, the hotel couldn’t be better placed. The city centre is a 5-minute walk away when you want to explore (check out The McManus, Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum). It’s just a short walk around the dock to HM Frigate Unicorn (the oldest British-built warship still afloat today) or along the river to Captain Scott's famous polar exploration ship RRS Discovery. Heading out? Try the whisky at Glencaddam Distillery, a 40-minute drive away, or visit the pretty beach of Broughty Ferry, 10 minutes away.
The hotel offers an eclectic range of dishes inspired by Italy, South America and Scotland at its elegant Metro Bar and Brasserie -- worth it for the view alone. If you’re dining out, think about having afternoon tea there instead. There’s also a luxurious spa with a relaxation pool, Japanese-inspired hot tubs, a sauna and a herbal-infused steam room. The spa offers a range of Elemis treatments (charges apply).
All rooms come with free WiFi, tea and coffee-making facilities and luxurious Elemis toiletries. Family Rooms are bigger and include a sofa bed. Upgrade to an Executive Room for views over the quay and the River Tay, or go all out and choose the Master Suite, which has a separate lounge area.
