Map & Directions

It's 25 minutes by taxi from Vienna International Airport. Public parking is available nearby, but it's best to use the hotel’s valet service as the car park entrance is narrow. By public transport, catch the City Airport Train (5.30am-11pm) to Wien Mitte in the city centre (15 minutes) and then take U4 line on the U-Bahn to Schottenring station, which is a block from the hotel.

The captivating Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna occupies one of Vienna’s grandest buildings, within easy walking distance of St Stephen's Cathedral. The building dates back to 1873, when it was designed by Theophil Edvard Hansen (architect of the Parliament Building and Vienna Stock Exchange), but has recently undergone a modern transformation. There is an iPad in every room to control the TV and entertainment system, and there’s free Wi-Fi throughout.

The bedrooms have been designed with the glamour of the 1920s and 30s in mind, with walnut furniture and Art Deco-style lamps. In contrast, all are high tech with digital controls for the bath and shower, a Nespresso machine and those iPads, with which guests can also order room service. This is a historic building so every room is uniquely shaped and overlook the courtyard garden or the street. Interconnecting rooms are available for families.

The sophisticated Cigar Lounge -- Vienna's largest -- was once the original foyer and still has soaring ceilings and listed columns. Here guests can sample a range of whiskies, purchase fine cigars and rent their own humidors.

Try traditional Viennese food at Die Küche, where dishes like Wiener Schnitzel and fish with curry sauce are prepared at live cooking stations and presented on sharing platters. For something more upmarket (but very reasonably priced), visit the fine dining Edvard restaurant, which has just been awarded a Michelin Star. Don't miss the hotel’s famous afternoon tea in the Lobby Lounge, where sweet buchtel rolls and bundt cake replace scones.

Other top-class facilities include a huge Turkish-style spa, unusually positioned on a mezzanine floor, with a small hydro pool, saunas, steam bath, treatment rooms and an enormous gym. There’s also an in-house delicatessen and florist.
