Mercure Warwickshire Walton Hall Hotel & Spa, part of which is a converted 16th-century mansion, is set within 65 acres of Warwickshire countryside. With the famous towns of Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon a short drive away, the hotel is in an ideal location to explore the historic heart of England.

Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon are both a 20-minute drive from the hotel. Stratford-upon-Avon, the birth and death place of Britain’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare, is an "unmistakably Tudor town" according to Lonely Planet. A visit to Warwick Castle, described by Frommer’s as the "finest medieval castle in England", is also a must.

The Mercure Warwickshire Walton Hall Hotel & Spa is "carefully designed to blend in naturally with the surroundings, whilst offering guests contemporary facilities", according to Lonely Planet. Amenities include beauty rooms and health club with a swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room and a gym. The hotel also has a 2-AA-Rosette fine dining restaurant, Moncreiffe, and AA-Rosette-awarded brasserie, the orangery. At the orangery, the AA recommends the twice-baked goats' cheese soufflé with a Waldorf salad. Breakfast, afternoon tea and Sunday lunch is also available.

The hotel has 148 standard and 37 deluxe rooms available, including Double Rooms, King Rooms, Garden View Rooms and Suites. Garden View Rooms and Suites are located in the 16th-century hall. All room types have TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Enjoyed Most: Staff nice and food ok also room was warm comfortable and clean
Other Comments: The walk from our room to the restaurants which involved leaving the building and walking up or down steps through car park to get to reception and restaurants. When it was dark there were raised paving slabs and drains which weren't well lit. Fortunately we are fit and it wasn't raining but not great. It's more like a motel rather than hotel

Enjoyed Most: The staff who were all pleasant, welcoming and very professional. The very comfortable bed and the excellent shower.
Other Comments: TIP: Do not unpack your car when you arrive, particularly if you have used satnav. The first reception you come to will ask you to drive to another reception. If your allocated room is then in Orchard Mews it will be suggested that you drive to it! If you request a room in "The Woodlands" you will then not have to venture outside to get to the restaurant or reception.

Enjoyed Most: area of hotel and grounds
Other Comments: We had to ask for our free bottle of wine which we had with our deal meal, only 2 towels in room for 2 people, had to ask, also no milk left in room 2nd day, these are only small things, but would have had higher score.

Enjoyed Most: The location, the staff were great.
Other Comments: Our overall experience was that there were details that needed to be addressed. The in room information mentioned walking routes, the reality was a plan of the buildings, not good. The food was generally good but our first starter had clearly been prepared several hours earlier and was dry and disappointing. I asked for a pepper mill on our first evening and the maître d explained that they did not have any peppercorns. Not very convincing but easily sorted but the second evening, still no peppercorns!! You tell me how many restaurants would admit to not having a pepper mill with no peppercorns? Overall, a hotel that was not fully functional. Sorry, we had hoped for better, we booked after we had had to cancel a holiday because my wife had been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma, but were disappointed. We look forward to hearing from you,
