This historic 4-star property is an ideal choice for a seaside escape, with a wealth of shops, restaurants and bars on its doorstep. The Lanes -- Brighton's intricate maze of cobbled alleyways, where you'll find a plethora of designer, antique and jewellery shops -- are a 5-minute walk away.
The hotel has previously welcomed guests including Charles II, and retains many of its original features, including the Grade II-listed Regency-style Paganini Ballroom, which was built in 1750. After a £250,000 refurbishment, it "now boasts majestic interiors with impressive attention to detail," says Square Meal.
The bedrooms are all a decent size and come with desks, TVs and free Wi-Fi. Rooms at the front can be a little noisy due to the nightclub directly opposite the hotel.
The Steak-on-Sea Restaurant serves locally sourced food and has views of Brighton Promenade. It's the perfect place to people watch while indulging in some traditional beer-battered fish and chips. Alternatively, you can relax in the Steak-on-Sea Bar, which serves light meals and snacks. There is also a gym just for guests.
There is plenty to do in Brighton. The SEA LIFE centre is one of the world's oldest operating aquariums, while the exotic Royal Pavilion is home to some of the finest examples of chinoiserie style in Britain.
