Close to the Vatican City and a 5-minute walk from St Peter's Basilica, Hotel Atlante Star doesn't have to work hard to sell its location. Set close to the banks of the Tiber River in the centre of the city, the hotel is also close to Castel Sant'Angelo -- a fortress also known as the Mausoleum of Hadrian -- as well as the Piazza Navona, the Piazza Venezia, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain.

"One of the highlights" of the hotel is the Les Etoiles panoramic roof-garden restaurant, where "you can enjoy spectacular views of St Peter's Basilica while you eat", according to Lonely Planet. Careful selection is given to the Mediterranean and international cuisine served in this unique setting; the chef hand picks seasonal and fresh ingredients daily from local suppliers. In addition, the hotel uses its own extra-virgin olive oil, made fresh on its country estate just outside the city. A selection of top Italian regional wines is also on hand as well.

Recently renovated guest rooms at Atlante Star Hotel are decorated in contemporary European style; all are non-smoking and come with an en-suite bathroom and a marble Jacuzzi, as well as air conditioning and a mini bar. Some rooms have a view of St Peter's Basilica.

Enjoyed Most: Location was good.
Other Comments: Hotel was overbooked and we had to stay the first night in another hotel. This was not even explained to us - we didn't realise we were in another hotel until we started looking for the roof top bar! Then we had to move on Day 2 to the other hotel - waste of time on our short trip with re-packing our suitcases. Our package included a free drink at the rooftop bar and 15% off at the rooftop restaurant - but these were closed for the duration of our visit - this was the only reason we picked this hotel and we couldn't even take it! The staff were rude and unfriendly. The rooms were dark and dingy and looked like they haven't been redo crated in 50 years. Breakfast was poor - constantly running out of items. I am extremely aggrieved to have paid so much money for such a poor hotel!

Enjoyed Most: Yes, firstly the central location, 2nd the wonderful panoramic view offered from the terace and restaurant and 3rd altough only opened in the evenings - the bar service - very good!
Other Comments: We were given room 301 and one could only sit on the loo sideways as the front was taken by the under-sink. Demanded change of room &given 309 where the room cleaness and service was so appalling that not even toilet paper was left after the clean. Bed-throw was jammed behind the safe in the wardrobe, insted of over the bed. we complained again mostly for the lack of cleanning in the room and the no loo roll but nothing has changed afterwards so we left letting them know that our stay was ridiculous sub-standard and we have no plans to reccommend them or return there. I was told that they are "trying" to improve the rooms, but it seems 3rd floor was not on the menu!
