Why We Love It

  • One of the hottest blocks on South Beach, across from nightlife kings the SLS and Delano
  • Two swimming pools, including one on the rooftop terrace
  • About a block from the beach: cross the road and take a short stroll down a path to get there
  • Less than two blocks from the popular Lincoln Road pedestrian mall

Nearly at the intersection of two of Miami Beach's most popular roads, the Catalina is close to shopping, nightlife and surf. Start at the beach, which you get to by crossing the road and walking through a shady path before emerging onto the sand and the public biking/walking path that traces along the coastline.

The hotel fronts onto Collins Avenue, the address of many of this town's most popular and happening hotels. The street looks like a postcard, punctuated as it is with the sharp deco angles and sleek jet-age swoops of some of the most recognizable landmarks and marquees. It's all easy to soak in from the broad front patio that faces the street, a perfect spot to sup on sushi and martinis.

To continue the party, head right across the street to the SLS or the Delano, currently the reigning champions in South Beach's stylish and competitive nightlife scene. A block farther down is the start of Lincoln Road, a pedestrianized lane full of brunch places, fast-fashion houses and street musicians.

The hotel takes over three historic neighboring structures, meaning the room design varies from building to building, some rooms more updated than others. Though all have generally modern and clean furnishings sitting atop dark wood floors anchored by Tempur-Pedic mattresses.

"Since some of South Beach's hottest clubs are in a three-block radius, the predominantly young clientele at this hotel doesn't spend much time sleeping" – Gayot

Enjoyed Most: 24 hour restaurant downstairs
Other Comments: They are in the middle of renovations and the hotel and hallways were very messy.

Enjoyed Most: The amenities, the closeness to the beach, the room service and restaurant options
Other Comments: Location was great, most of the Staff was great. One situation we witnessed with an employee who was a bartender in the main center Catalina hotel. He was really rude, he was telling guests during happy hour that even though the drinks are free that they arent, tips are how they make a liVing and he was angry because guests weren't tipping him. Everyone just stood there and kept quiet. We decided to go somewhere for cocktails because we didn't feel comfortable. He had about 3$ of tips in his jar and I see why.

Enjoyed Most: They were quick to rectify room issue. Had a reservation for a king room, was placed in a double bed in the older, Maxine's building. Upon my complaint, was moved to a king room in the newer, much nicer Dorsett builing and given 4 free drink tickets. Daily Happy Hour is pretty sweet. 24 hour restaurant that did seem to be always busy also a nice option. Great Location.
Other Comments: The Dorsett is the newest building and by far the one that has been kept up with the most. Old, mustyness is prevalent throughout the hotel however in all 3 buildings. Decent for the cost, staff was nice but if you're looking for anything upscale you will not want to stay here.
