Hedley House is a 26-bedroom, Victorian townhouse hotel close to the historic city of York. Lonely Planet praises the hotel's "smart, family-friendly" accommodation, which is "barely five minutes' walk from the city centre". The traditional, red-brick property has an on-site restaurant, a hot tub on its outdoor terrace and there's a chance to spot stage stars from York's theatres, who often stay at the hotel.

The hotel provides an ideal base from which to explore the city's historic attractions such as The Minster, the largest medieval structure in the UK. To discover Yorkshire’s countryside, head to The Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is 30 minutes away by car. A little further afield, the North Yorks Moors National Park is home to one of the most picturesque steam railways in England. The hotel is 10 minutes' walk from York's train station and on-site car parking is available for £5 per night.

Built in 1845, Hedley House has been converted from two Victorian townhouses to create a hotel which offers bedrooms and apartments within easy reach of York's city centre. There are three dining rooms, and a lounge bar, which is stocked with hand-picked wines and beers from York's own brewery. As well as the hearty dishes available for dinner, don't miss breakfast the next morning -- Hedley House has been awarded a VisitEngland Breakfast Award. You'll find a sauna and a hot tub outside on the terrace and there is also an on-site beauty therapist offering an array of treatments including aromatherapy and hot-lava shell massage.

Bedrooms are modern and comfortable; some also retain traditional elements such as original fireplaces. All rooms are supplied with a hospitality tray (with tea and coffee) and all have TVs equipped with Freeview.

Rooms were clean and the waitresses were efficient and friendly. The location was ideal for visiting York and the on site parking convenient.
Other Comments
Our room, it was in the attic area, 54 stairs up, no lifts, and the last flight was extremely steep. The low ceiling made it claustrophobic. When checking out I was told we only had Room only booking, which was not true and fortunately I had printed booking form to prove this. I would have expected Hedley House to be aware of our Travel Zoo Booking.
