The AAA 4-Diamond Hotel Monaco Baltimore, located in the historic former home of the B&O Railroad headquarters, is a "fantastic, elegant" crowd pleaser (U.S. News & World Report Travel). The Tiffany stained-glass windows, marble staircase and a grand, airy two-story lobby all remain, but they’ve been given a makeover with a jewel-toned color scheme and design-conscious furniture.

As with all Kimpton hotels, free extras abound. There’s a daily wine social for guests (5-6 p.m.), complimentary shoe shines and morning tea and coffee are available in the lobby. Adventurous guests can borrow a bike from the hotel (locks, helmets and maps included) and explore the surrounding streets or even head out to Druid Hill Park for a spin beneath the trees and a visit to the zoo.

Downtown is not the most quaint of neighborhoods (it’s commerce-heavy), but it’s great for business travelers as Baltimore Convention Center is six minutes away on foot. Guests are only four blocks from the harbor area, a must-see Baltimore attraction. Also nearby is Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center, all within about a 10- to 15-minute walk. Ravens fans will appreciate being just a 20-minute hike from the M&T Bank Stadium.

Rooms are comfortable with lots of thoughtful details. Bathrooms are large and have tiled walk-in showers or soaking tubs (spa rooms only). Families can spread out in Bunk Bed rooms, which sleep up to six (two double beds and a bunk bed in an adjoining room) and come with an Xbox.

There’s a 24-hour gym for fitness needs, and the Monaco has a laid-back brasserie restaurant with low-slung sofas and a bustling bar, where charcuterie plates sit beside brick oven-fired pizzas. Pets are welcome, and guests who don’t bring their own can always borrow a goldfish for company.

Enjoyed Most: The look and details about everything was beautiful. The place has modern textures, colors, and flair at the same time preserving the details and character of the original building. Check it out for yourself! And the staff was exceptional to say the least, everyone was so helpful and friendly. And lastly the security details of the building make you feel that they care for you. Thanks all at Hotel Monaco

Enjoyed Most: Beautiful building
Other Comments: The rate was advertised as $99 but I was charged $150 so either it was false advertising or I got ripped off.

Enjoyed Most: The room was very clean and spacious, customer service was excellent
Other Comments: Loved that they stored our bags after we checked out and then brought them to our car for us. Overnight parking is expensive, but it's good until 4pm the next day so we walked everywhere. Went to harborplace, Gallery mall, and Powerplant Live, all within walking distance.
