The Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, is a luxurious "trip to paradise" (Zagat) and the "most incredible beach resort in the United States" (Conde Nast Traveler). No detail is overlooked at this 40-acre property located in Maui's ritziest neighborhood, rightfully earning it the AAA 4-Diamond award for more than 15 consecutive years.

The oceanfront resort takes extravagance to a new level. Upon arrival, guests step into a lush island oasis dotted with open-air buildings that put breathtaking views of the Pacific and one of Maui's best beaches front and center. The magnificent pool complex is not to be missed: at over 2,000 feet, it’s composed of nine pools connected by a man-made river with rapids, waterfalls, swim-up bar, grottoes and a Tarzan-style rope swing.

Fodor's says, "You can meet every vacation need without ever leaving the property." Restaurant and bar options abound at the iconic resort -- guests have a choice from seven -- from romantic oceanside tables to a casual bistro ambiance. Pamper yourself at the 50,000-square-foot spa or peruse the hotel’s extensive art collection with works by acclaimed artists such as Fernando Botero and Fernand Leger.

Rooms are airy and open -- each has a private lanai -- with subtle island touches like tropical flower patterns on accent pillows and overstuffed chaises. Marble bathrooms, 55-inch flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi are standard.

Enjoyed Most: We enjoyed with staff plus we enjoyed being in the Napoi Tower which offered Breakfast, Tea and Happy Hour.
Other Comments: I enjoyed out stay, however my daughter almost was speared to death by a umbrella that was picked up by a gust of wind and flown directly towards her and other guests on the beach. It came out of sand with sand bag attached and everything right at her. It actually hit so hard it sprung her cell phone right out of her hand and cracked it. I am currently submitting a claim to have it replaced with there insurance people. Many guests were on the beach when the umbrellas came out of the sand. Fortuntely no one was hurt, but my daughter cell phone was busted by the impact of the umbrella. Hopefully this gets settled with there insurance company. Thank You Mary Athens

Enjoyed Most: The location and beach are what we love in Wailea! Would stay elsewhere for the full resort experience and for the cost in the future.
Other Comments: I've been coming to Maui every 1-2 years half my life, very familiar with Wailea, but this was my first time staying at The Grand Wailea. The grounds are enormous and "grand" but we were really underwhelmed with the value. It doesn't compare with the other resorts (Andaz, Hotel Wailea, Four Seasons, etc). For the same price range, they have the same beaches, weather, and location, but their hotels are so much more modern, updated, the service much more personal, and the overall experience is so much more detail oriented elsewhere. The Grand Wailea is so huge I don't think they are able to have the same quality control and attention to detail. They don't have complimentary car service that takes you to the shops or other hotels, the valet is a bit slow because of the volume of cars (not because of the employees), the pools are crowded all the time. Rooms are dated, the lighting is harsh, bathrooms old. Our experience at the Westin for $150 was better than our experience here for $370.

Enjoyed Most: Great family resort. Pools are the highlight for the kids: water elevator, water slides, lazy pool. The daily breakfast buffet was really good and what I would consider reasonable based on what is made available. It's $31.50 per adult and $15.00 per child. A 5 minute walk gets you to a great little shopping mall that has a coffee shop, some great eats and for those that like to go all out a Tiffany's, Rolex, and other fine stores. All in all a great time. It's a big resort so bring your walking shoes...
Other Comments: Upon check in I had to confirm the $500 resort credit. They sort of ignored it. And to my suspicion, n the last night the bill was inserted under our room door, like most hotels. They failed to add the $500 Travel Zoo Credit. I had to go to the front desk and frequent my refund. Maybe this is the way it works as this was my first Travel Zoo Trip.
