New Park Manor, a family-friendly retreat in the New Forest, is said to have been Charles II's favourite hunting lodge. The property is now a "tasteful" (The Daily Telegraph) boutique hotel, offering fine dining and a sumptuous spa.

The hotel's natural surroundings are great for outdoor activities -- from clay-pigeon shooting, archery, horse riding and climbing trees in the extensive grounds, to watersports and beach walks a short drive away.

The Spa has a 16-metre indoor pool, a steam room, a sauna, a hydrotherapy pool, power jets and a hot tub with views of the grounds. The Daily Telegraph praises the spa as "one of the finest examples" of a luxury spa.

The Stag restaurant offers fine dining, while the informal Vinery restaurant caters for all with child-friendly menus.

The hotel's 25 bedrooms are kitted out with plush furnishings, and some have original period features and parkland views. There are plenty of places to relax, including the cosy lounge (with an open fire in winter), a snug room and a cinema room. There is also a crèche.

Wasn’t aware how family oriented it was. Woken up at 6-30 by a crying baby and creaky floorboards. Would be better for couples to be on top floor!!!

The outstanding friendliness and attentiveness of staff throughout. Excellent quality of food at dinner and breakfast.

We only had a small room with lethal sloping ceilings which were a constant hazard bumping our heads several times. You have to remember to duck your head when arising from bed and visiting the toilet. It would be a safety feature if the sloping parts were painted a different colour to the straight walls, also a warning notice would be useful. No lift as far as I'm aware. Very hazardous also to young children when in the upper rooms plus adults carrying babies negotiating the twisty stairs despite being a family hotel with many young children staying there. Lastly a complete nightmare on checkout. After four attempts at getting the bill correct I finally had a correct extras bill of under £20, the first bill issued was for over £60. Apart from these encounters the stay was very good and excellent value for money.
