Tucked away at the end of a secluded driveway, the Norfolk Mead Hotel is a "beautiful hotel" in a "peaceful location and set in its own extensive grounds", says The AA Hotel Guide 2014. Built as a former merchant's house, the Georgian country-house hotel overlooks the River Bure and is surrounded by eight acres of riverside grounds and gardens.
The property underwent a refurbishment in 2013 and each bedroom is individually designed with calming and cosy touches. Rooms are spacious and airy and the décor is traditional with neutral calming colours. Sink into the king-size beds with the highest quality linens. Some rooms have modern bathrooms with rain-showers and sleigh beds. All rooms overlook the walled garden, the mead or the river.
The AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant sources ingredients from the finest farms and markets in Norfolk. We like the sound of the fresh Cromer crab with pea-pannacotta, and the assiette of chicken with basil gnocchi and creamed spring greens. On sunny days, enjoy afternoon tea in the walled garden.
The hotel is a 75-minute drive from Sandringham Estate, the Norfolk home of the Queen.
