Overview

Located on 1,300 acres of the Sonoran Desert, the Boulders Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton -- a AAA 4-Diamond and 5-star resort -- is known as much for its stunning scenery with boulder formations and cacti as its top-notch facilities, which recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation. It was also named the "Best Hotel in Arizona" by Travel + Leisure in 2017.

Swanky rooms and suites are situated within charming adobe casitas and come with a wood-burning adobe-style fireplace, a private wooden patio or balcony and wood-beamed ceilings. Casitas were recently renovated to create a more modern look with calming neutral earth tones and Native American-inspired furnishings and decor. Bathrooms are just as luxurious, with fluffy robes and towels, as well as a separate soaking tub and a stand-alone shower. One-, two- and three-bedroom villas are also available.

Designed by famed course architect Jay Morrish, the two championship courses on site are surrounded by mountain views. Four pools and a tennis center with eight courts keep non-golfers busy, and the 33,000-square-foot spa is especially popular. The real highlights are the private outdoor Watsu water lounge (used by a therapist who guides you through the water with a massage and stretching), meditative labyrinth walking path and Southwest-inspired treatments, such as a warm turquoise clay wrap. Don’t miss the fitness classes (included in the resort fee), which include yoga, cycling and Pilates as well as other activities such as personal training, boulder climbing and mountain biking.

No less than six dining venues are spread across the hotel, golf club, spa and the charming El Pedregal shopping complex nearby (free shuttle transfers are available). El Pedregal also has a number of boutiques to explore, and the shops and restaurants of Old Town Scottsdale are only a 35-minute drive.

A mandatory charge of $30 per night applies and will be added to the room rate. This covers basic guest internet access; fitness center access; fitness classes; gratuities for bell service, concierge and shuttle drivers; club storage; local and toll-free calls; and on-property shuttle. Charges will be added to your bill at the hotel.

From the press:
  • "One of the country's top resorts -- and one of the few with an all-organic approach -- hides amid hill-size, 12-million-year-old granite boulders and the lush Sonoran Desert" -- Fodor's
  • "Pathways wind through the 1,300-acre desert property in North Scottsdale, where you’ll find quail, jackrabbits, lizards, and javelina." -- Travel + Leisure

The housekeeping was not up to par with what we expected in a resort such as this. Floors were dirty, leaves on rugs, no wash cloths left on 2nd day and after calling could still not get them delivered either.

This was a stay-cation and we felt like we were out of town. The resort employees made every step of our vacation easy and were all amazingly friendly.

There were several customers who were waiting for their rooms to be ready at 4:00 for check-in and the property was not able get people in their rooms. We had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready. There was a leak in the bathroom coming from behind the wall and water was leaking into large puddles in the bathroom. I had a dispute over the amount that I had prepaid with TravelZoo (I was charged $192 by TravelZoo but the hotel was only showing a credit of $158) and the property refused to correct my bill. They were very difficult and would not adjust the amount that was owed by the $40 difference. This was upsetting because I was charged twice for certain fees. They told me that it wasn't their problem and I needed to contact TravelZoo if I wanted a refund of that $40.
