Why We Love This Hotel

  • Top-rated tourist sites are right outside — it’s only a few blocks to Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building
  • Times Square is about 10 blocks north, and Chelsea is just a few blocks south

If you’re in town to see the major sights, you’ll find quite a few of them along the streets just north of the Stewart Hotel: the Empire State Building is within five blocks while Madison Square Garden and Penn Station are right across the street. Times Square is about 10 blocks north — you can see it glowing straight up Seventh Avenue. In the Herald Square area, many fast-fashion and affordable clothing companies have opened some of their largest stores.

If you’re seeking a quieter pace, along the lines of how locals live, head south of the hotel to the Chelsea neighborhood. A district that was once home to an artistic fringe decades ago is now affluent with families and professionals. There are stylish restaurants and cozy shops, as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology and Upright Citizens Brigade improv comedy theater.

Studio Suite rooms are spacious by NYC standards, starting at 410 square feet and featuring a kitchenette, flat-panel TVs, pillowtop bedding, in-room coffee makers and Wi-Fi. Guests who upgrade to a One-Bedroom suite will stay in a space with a separate seating area and over 500 square feet of space. There's also an on-site restaurant, bar and a fitness center with Peloton bikes.

We checked in and the room was supposed to have a sleeper sofa and it didn’t. When asked about it, the clerk said all rooms come with it. Our room 406 did not. The passes were given to us when I mentioned it. We never got the citi bike thing either. We got the bagel coupons though and although it was a good value, there’s a lot of street noise as well as the pipes squeaking. Wouldn’t go back there.

Tub didn’t drain for 12 hours. Carpet in room soaking wet. Major leak somewhere. Wouldn’t give me details. Room was okay. Nice to have extra space so I appreciated that.

The hotel needs some updating, we were on the 3rd floor and it was loud all night, and the heat wouldn’t shut off so I had to jimmy a window open which were all screwed shut.

We always stay at the Stewart when we are in NYC. In the past year, we have stayed here at least five times. The staff is always wonderful - - kind and accommodating. The price is right and it is centrally-located. It is a true gem.

Booked with a great deal with Travelzoo, and stayed one night in the one bedroom suite with small kitchen. Very spacious room. Very small bathroom and bedroom, but the large living room made up for the space. Above all, the staff and valet were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Great location. You can hop on subway right across the street and go anywhere! Lots of sirens at night due to it being NYC and fire station next door. But it gave us a true NYC experience. Amazing breakfast at Browns Bagels downstairs. I want to go back. Fun city!!

Kick the pot smokers out!! Every single time we opened our door, we smelled pot!! And it was very strong. Almost made me gag. The cleaning lady said your people would not kick him out, just charge a fine. But that ruined it for the people on his floor. I should have asked for a room change!! Get it right Stewart Hotel. Get rid of trouble makers.
