Great John Street Hotel
About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- Housed in a Victorian building that was once a school -- many original features remain
- Located in central Manchester, minutes from major attractions such as the Opera House
- Eclectic design mixes original Victorian features with modern, hip furnishings
- The rooftop terrace has a hot tub & stunning city views
It was once a Victorian schoolhouse, but since its reincarnation as a hip boutique hotel, the Great John Street Hotel is all about pleasure rather than education.
It’s in central Manchester, within walking distance of many attractions: The River Irwell, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Opera House Manchester are all less than 5 minutes away. To understand the city’s long history with the beautiful game, visit the National Football Museum, 20 minutes’ walk away, then head to The Printworks next door, a historical building housing restaurants, bars and a cinema.
There’s no restaurant, but there are plenty of options nearby to explore. Breakfast is served in The Kitchen & Mezzanine, which features vintage photos of former school pupils. The Oyster Bar is the place to sink into sumptuous sofas and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea or glass of wine, while the cosy Library features patio doors leading to a private terrace. But the crème de la crème is the Rooftop Garden Playground and Lounge -- a chic lounge that leads onto a terrace with stunning city views, a hot tub and sun loungers.
Seriously stylish rooms are individually designed, with many retaining original features such as exposed steel beams and wooden floors. Some of the rooms are spread over two floors, all have flat-screen TVs, roll top baths, walk in rain showers and free WiFi -- some have crystal chandeliers. The largest and most luxurious, the Opus Grand rooms, measure up to a whopping 625 sq feet.
