Overview
Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort launched in 2009 with a celeb-studded party featuring Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon and Gerard Butler, as well as rose-proffering monkeys. Things have calmed down somewhat since, but this multi-million pound resort is a "real Moroccan palace" (The Express), and was named Africa's Leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) Hotel in 2014 at the World Travel Awards.
There is plenty to do on site, with a private beach stretching for four miles, a coastal 18-hole golf course (the longest in Morocco), a spa and more. Guests can hire bicycles or play volleyball for free, and there is also horse riding, jet-skiing and surfing lessons available (extra charges apply). There are strong currents at the beach so it is often not suitable for swimming, but there is a palm-fringed pool on site (heated to 23°C). Children will be kept well entertained with three kids' clubs for different ages, a petting zoo, pool and cinema.
The rooms are spacious, with French balconies, free Wi-Fi and views of the pool, gardens, golf course or Atlantic Ocean. Non-smoking rooms are available on request. Upgrade to a Suite or higher to receive 2-for-1 spa treatments and in-room breakfast. The Villas are suitable for families or groups, with three bedrooms, an extensive outdoor space, a private pool and car parking for two vehicles.
There are nine restaurants at the resort, open at certain times of the year. The Market Place buffet restaurant has a varied choice, with Indian, Chinese, Lebanese and European cuisine available. The Morjana restaurant specialises in fine Moroccan cuisine. Most guests stay on either a half-board or all-inclusive package, but extras can be expensive so make sure you check restrictions, and ask what your dining options will be during your stay. After dinner, there are a two bars with entertainment to choose from (including piano music and belly dancing), plus a large casino.
The hotel runs a daily complimentary shuttle to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of El Jadida, and one to Casablanca on Sundays and Thursdays. Azemmour, on the banks of Morocco's longest river, is also worth a day trip.
