Why We Love This Hotel

  • Once settled by Danish immigrants, Solvang is Scandinavian from every angle with thatched-roofed shops peddling wooden shoes and cuckoo clocks and half-timbered Danish Provincial buildings
  • The beloved Olsen's bakery, known for their authentic pastries, is just steps from the hotel — ideal for breakfast or an afternoon treat
  • A dreamy stop on a California road trip, The Vinland is less than an hour from Santa Barbara and is known for its numerous local wineries and vineyards

Tucked among Danish bakeries and shops, you'll find the charming Vinland Hotel, a contemporary hideaway just steps from the most popular attractions in Solvang. Packed with European flair, thatched cottages and even windmills, a trip to Solvang feels like you've landed in a Scandinavian fairytale. In fact, the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, dedicated to the Danish author of prolific children's stories such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling," is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

Guest rooms are spacious and modern and come equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi and Malin + Goetz bath products. After a day of exploring, guests can cozy up by the fireplace in the lobby or enjoy a glass of local vino on the outdoor patio.

The one thing that needs improvement is the shower. The water pressure was law and shower head needed fixing/upgrade

We paid extra for a valley view room. We also requested a top floor room at the front desk said they didn't have any available. The View was a huge tree that was right up onto our balcony. All you could see were leaves. Not a valley view at all.

Our room and stay were comfortable, warm and welcoming. We had put together last-minute road-trip plans to do a as-safe-as-possible-during-Covid Road Trip, and our first night's stay was in Solvang at the Vinland Hotel. We opted for a King (bed) with "Valley View" which overlooked the park (Hans Christian Andersen Park) of Oak trees behind the property. Our second floor room had its own little balcony with a small metal table and two metal chairs. The sky was beautiful at night with many more stars then we're able to see in the Bay Area of California. It appeared that the hotel is doing all that it can for its guests to prevent the spread of Covid. Had it not been as late as it was when we arrived, we may have opted to have a beer or a cocktail at their lounge [currently (Feb. 2021) only doing outdoor seating with propane heat lamps due to Covid], but instead retired to our room. All of the tourist areas are a very short walking distance from the hotel, the most important (to us) being the best of the bakeries in town; Olsen's Danish Village Bakery. Family owned and operated, the amount and variety of baked goods of fantastic quality there is astounding. It's only a block and a half from the hotel. The parking garage under the hotel made us feel like our classic car was safe and out of sight from people besides hotel guests. The bed was very comfortable, and the updated décor was nice. The staff was attentive too; my wife's slippers got left behind in the bed cloths, they were found and we were called immediately. We would certainly stay here again.

Great location, at the edge of town so easier to go west where there are tons of other restaurants and wineries. Comfortable rooms, lovely balcony on the valley view side. Would go back!

The hotel is well situated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is very clean and modernized. Overall very quiet and restful.

Had a small issue with the TV but it wasn't a big deal for me, might be an issue with families with kids.

Only downside was the elevator wasn't in service. Would have been good to disclose that in a welcome e-mail or when you texted about your Valentine's Day restaurant offers.

It was clean and the shower was nice.
Other Comments
The room was not in the main hallway and there was a constant loud noise like a generator or a mechanical sound every five minutes. We were up all night because of the loud noise and also the street noise because the window was not sound proof. We would not go back to that hotel even if they give us that room for free!
