Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Castle Hill Resort and Spa is a stately stone-clad mansion turned elegant hotel in the Green Mountains of southern Vermont. The intimate hotel has only 10 guest rooms and is three miles from the quaint village of Ludlow and a 10-minute drive to the ski slopes of the Okemo Mountain Resort. The surrounding area offers year-round activities including golfing, hiking, fly-fishing, ice skating, sledding, skiing and ample opportunities for shopping.

The castle was built in 1905, when it was the first home in Vermont with electricity, and still has original Tiffany light fixtures and carved plaster ceilings. All rooms have hardwood floors and period furnishings, and guests can also expect amenities like plush bathrobes, complimentary bottled water and free Wi-Fi. Upgrade to a suite for a separate living room and a fireplace.

A fixed-price, four-course dinner is served every evening in the wood-paneled Castle Restaurant, and a full-service spa is housed in the property’s historic carriage house. The spa menu has a good mix of massages, scrubs and facials, and there is also a private gym with yoga and Pilates classes (extra charge applies) and a heated outdoor pool and hot tub. Please note, there is no elevator at the hotel so it may not be suitable for those with mobility requirements.

Enjoyed Most: They did not have record of my reservation, although true that I did not confirm in advance. We had to change rooms after one night as a result. The resort is not administered well.

Enjoyed Most: Good location, Castle itself was amazing
Other Comments: Tv in room was old with intermittent reception, very annoying! Initially, they put us in a TINY room that smelled like smoke. After complaining, they moved us to a larger, and non smoke, room.

Enjoyed Most: The pool and mansion are beautiful. Dinner was spectacular, my husband is still raving about the beef wellington. The gardens and grounds are beautiful and very well cared for. Beautiful spot for a wedding!
Other Comments: We opted to stay in a condo unit, which, if we had to do over, would not done. It was clean, but not well maintained. The phone didn't work, the toilet must have had a leak, and the tank filled every 40 seconds (very annoying during the night especially) also light bulbs out in the bathroom. If we were there for more than one night, we would have insisted on another room. We did view some of the guest rooms in the mansion, and would definitely stay there another time..lovely.

Enjoyed Most: The Delicious meals at the Castle Restaurant.
Other Comments: Staying here for 3 days (on 3 vouchers) was a pleasant experience. Very relaxing, with personable staff to the last member. Room 8 was very comfortable, clean, well appointed, and on the more quiet, back side of the Castle. The Castle itself is beautiful and apparently well maintained, with a very relaxing library/lounge room on the first floor where we enjoyed some quiet game time. We also enjoyed relaxing in and around the good-sized heated pool, is spite of some road noise that can be heard from that location, but that was not too disturbing. My wife also enjoyed using one $25.00 credit for an excellent massage at the nice Aveda Spa. Regarding the $25.00 Castle Restaurant credit per voucher, these can only be used toward the more expensive, 3-course gourmet prix fixe dinner for 2 (as clearly stated on each voucher), and not toward the less expensive $25.00/person meal options available nightly. However, this is quite understandable given the size and taste of these meals options.
