Our room looked out over the sea and we had the magical experience of observing an otter on the shore. We were disappointed the restaurant was closed on both nights of our stay but enjoyed our beautifully presented food in the Copper Room. We definitely plan to return.

Location and view. Room was nice and comfortable. Enjoyed the sauna. Room and restaurant staff were very nice, but we were a little put off with reception on arrival. Wood for fireplaces needs to be more seasoned and drier.

We're travellers and not vacationers and we've spent a lot of time in lovely spots, all over the place and for much less. We thought it was very much over priced for what it was on a weekend ($179 per night), but it was our 20th anniversary and this was the first time we've stayed at Sooke Harbour House. Also we ate in the Copper Room the first night and it was very expensive for what we got and the food was mediocre. We went away hungry, but not wanting to spend any more money. The fireplaces don't work very well and there was the constant smell of smoke in our room and the hallways. We had a fire only one night and slept with the patio door open to vent the smoke. We arrived at about 1:30 in the afternoon and couldn't get into our room. We understand rooms have to be cleaned; however, the receptionist didn't even check with housekeeping. She just told us to come back around 3:30 as that was check-in time. We have not found this to be common practice. The hotel needs to be refurbished
