Why We Love It

  • Less than half a mile from Natural Bridge landmark and caverns
  • Property’s past owner Thomas Jefferson called Natural Bridge “the most sublime of nature’s works”
  • Includes free Wi-Fi and parking
  • Family-friendly hotel with three on-site restaurants

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Natural Bridge Park and Historic Hotel is a family-friendly property less than a five-minute walk from the Natural Bridge. The limestone formation was considered sacred by Native Americans, and today it's a National Historic Landmark. The Federal-style hotel sits on property once purchased by Thomas Jefferson from King George III of England in the Shenandoah Valley.

The main inn houses traditional guest rooms, as well as two large suites. All rooms are decorated with the work of local artists and craftsmen. Each offers the choice of two full-size beds or one king bed and includes free Wi-Fi. Suites have two bedrooms and kitchenettes. There are 30 Veranda Rooms with patios separated from the main building by an open-air walkway.

Three restaurants offer diverse menus: Past guests rave about the surf and turf buffet served Fridays at Red Fox, while fresh-made sandwiches and baked goods are available daily at the Archway Deli and The Gatehouse Pavilion dishes out American favorites from burgers and fries to funnel cake. All dining options are family-friendly, but adults can enjoy Virginia wines and craft beers at the Red Fox Tavern on weekends in winter and nightly March through October.

From the hotel, visitors have direct access to hiking and walking trails traversing the 1,600-acre park. Virginia Safari Park is 5 miles from the hotel, while Roanoke, Virginia Tech and multiple Civil War battlefields are within an hour’s drive of the property.

The pleasant service Faye, our waitress gave us at dinnertime. Also the old-fashioned feel in the resort.
Other Comments
The staff is very friendly and the food is very tasty with generous portions, though there could be a bit more variety in the menu, perhaps some seafood in addition to shrimp.
