"Service is professional and efficient" -- The AA

Why We Love It

  • This Grade II-listed Georgian guesthouse has 15 rooms and pretty gardens
  • It is 10 minutes' drive from the city centre
  • Bailbrook Lodge holds four AA Gold Stars for excellent levels of hospitality and service

With its Georgian buildings, winding streets and Roman baths, Bath is "the grandest and most elegant" city in England, according to Condé Nast Traveller. It can also be on the expensive side, but the 4-star Bailbrook Lodge is a reasonably priced option less than 10 minutes' drive from the city centre.

It has 15 bedrooms with views of the property's pretty gardens and the Avon Valley beyond. Rooms are all different shapes and sizes, but DVD players, iPod docking stations, cotton slippers and tea- and coffee-making facilities are standard in all rooms, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. There is no lift, so ask for a ground-floor room if anyone in your party has mobility requirements.

Cooked breakfast is made to order, and there is also a choice of pastries, cereal and fruit. Snacks, including afternoon tea, are served in the lounge throughout the day and there's a small bar. There is no on-site restaurant serving lunch or dinner but there are plenty of dining options 10 minutes' drive away in central Bath, including Brasserie Brunel at sister property the Royal Hotel Bath.

There is plenty of free off-street parking, but finding parking in the city can be tricky. There is a bus stop a 5-minute walk from the property with a regular service into the city centre.

I think the hotel would greatly be enhanced if they were able to provide dinner. We would certainly have used the facility.

We did have to cut our experience to just one day because of a family emergency, and we were very disappointed that we had to leave early.

Breakfast was lovely and people were very kind
Other Comments
There was not an issue with the accommodation but travelzoo did not advise the hotel of the booking, meaning no advance warning of arrival, luckily they had a vacancy although there were no 4 poster beds available which was not great and no fault of the hotel.
