Overview

The Gallivant Times Square offers small but stylish rooms in a tourist's most-wanted location. It is right around the corner from Times Square's main intersection, but hidden on a side street so that the immediate area is quiet and restful compared with hotels directly in Times Square.

Rooms have modern new furnishings, but are a bit tight for travelers looking to spend more time inside the room. Showers in the rooms are doorless and can wet the floors. But the dozens of Broadway theaters within five blocks will keep guests out into the evening. Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall are three blocks away, the Museum of Modern Art and the high-end shops on Fifth Avenue are another 10 blocks from the hotel.

The An'nam on site offers Vietnamese and Japanese fusion cuisine, but also serves up a traditional American buffet breakfast each morning for purchase. DING offers freestyle barbecue that you can prepare yourself, shabu-shabu stews and tapas. For further exploring, Restaurant Row -- which is packed shoulder-to-shoulder with ethnic eateries and lots of bars -- is just a block or two west along Eighth and Ninth avenues.

Cover all the corners of New York City with Travelzoo deals at iconic restaurants, Broadway shows and top attractions from Central Park to the New York Harbor.

Getting There

Typically 40 minutes by taxi from John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport, the fare is approximately $50, not including tip and tolls. Alternatively, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and change for the Long Island Rail Road to Penn Station, which is 15-20 minutes on foot from the hotel. The journey should take over an hour but will be much cheaper.

Very comfortable beds!
Other Comments
The hotel is very nice in a perfect location. There aren't a ton of perks like some hotels, for example there's not a mini bar, bathrobes, fridge, etc. The rooms are very small. But the beds were SO comfortable so that was enough for us. We didn't spend much time in the hotel anyway. The staff was a little rude to us at times but that would be my only negative comment.

The location was fantastic! It was so convenient to many NYC attractions and restaurants, and was so close to fairly large metro stops with numerous lines. The room size was perfect for two.
Other Comments
The wifi connection was bad. And the small elevators were a problem during busy times, when there were lots of people waiting either in the lobby or on every floor.

This stay was much better than my first; where the housekeeping staff was lackadaisical and didn't clean my room several days in a row...and no, the 'privacy please' sign wasn't out.

The hotel lobby was beautiful but when we got up to the room there was a wet towel sitting on the toilet bowl and hair in the sink i have to say it wasn't clean as it should be. Then around 2 a.m. we smelled pot and our room. Then trying to sleep was really hard if you're in the back end of the hotel facing all the other hotels and restaurants it is Extremely Loud up until 2am and we were on the 8th floor. The music and screaming from people was unbearable you try to sleep you wake back up, I had to turn my TV up to try to drowned out that noise and my TV was so loud have to say I wouldn't be staying there again. Told the manager he didn't seem to care he said yeah we have that problem that's not the answer you want when you spend that kind of money on a room so if you're looking for a good night sleep this is not the place good luck!
