"A luxe property ... supremely modern" --

Why We Love It

  • Centrally located in the upscale Rittenhouse Square neighborhood
  • Has a bright, modern vibe in a historic 1920s-era building
  • Includes complimentary Wi-Fi and bottled water for all guests
  • Zagat loves the "retro dinner-club feel" of the hotel's on-site steakhouse

The Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square is an elegant and modern option just steps from one of the nation's most popular city parks. Originally built in 1926 as the Warwick Hotel, this landmark hotel was reborn after a $20 million overhaul and rebranded as a Radisson Blu in 2013, only to return to the Warwick name in early 2016.

Guest rooms are spacious for an older building and alive with vivid colors, contemporary artwork and moderately big windows. The building itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, but the 2013 renovation added modern touches like refrigerators, flat-panel TVs, Wi-Fi and leather furniture. Guests can upgrade to a spacious suite with city views or a business-level room with access to an exclusive lounge with breakfast each morning and refreshments in the evening.

The hotel doesn't have a pool but features a well-equipped fitness center. Similarly, while there's no full-service spa, the hotel can arrange for in-room massages; there's also a hair salon on site. Guests can dine on-site at the The Prime Rib, a supper club-style steakhouse that Zagat has named one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia.

From the hotel, it’s a 10-minute walk to the iconic Philadelphia City Hall or the Parisian-inspired Museum Row on Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Take a 20-minute stroll to get to the Liberty Bell and Reading Terminal Market, and about a half hour to the "Rocky steps" in front of the Museum of Art. Dozens of bars and restaurants are in the neighborhood as well, including one of the country's best beer bars, Monk's Cafe, about a block away.

From the press:
  • "This refurbished hotel inside a landmark building at the very center of a historic city is a great place from which to explore" -- The New York Times

The front desk staff didn't welcome us and treated us like we didn't belong there — probably because we weren't wearing fancier clothes or something. It was bizarre.

First, my review comments on"Your Experience" and "How Would You Rate the Hotel" are based on a series of overnight stays that we have had at the hotel. Our visit on October 22 was a disaster -- lousy view overlooking a series of alleys and rooftops and trash; filthy windows and screens; air filter system that filled the room with all types of food smells. We have sent a letter to the hotel stating our disappointment.

It is hard to list just one thing, but I guess it would be that they upgraded me to the Club Level at no additional charge and we could check in immediately upon arrival.
Other Comments
The valet service was excellent. The room was beautiful, no real view, but that was not necessary for this trip and the restaurant was first rate and everything it stated it was. Loved my visit.
