TOP 20 - Sells out quickly!

Blues. Barbecue. Beale Street. The home of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. And one of the best hamburgers in the country (per Thrillist) at Earnestine & Hazel's.

All of these are great reasons for a summer trip to Memphis -- and a room at one of the city's best hotels for $109 is another excellent one.

  • Stay in a Banker Queen for $109 on weekdays in June-July
  • Weekends are just $30 more, including July 4 weekend
  • Dates in August and September are also available for +$30, including during Elvis Week (Aug. 11-19), commemorating the 40th anniversary of the King's passing
  • Book the dates around Aug. 21 to experience a partial solar eclipse

"First-class service, and rooftop river views" -- Frommer's

Why We Love It

  • Intimate boutique hotel walking distance to Beale Street and the Mississippi River
  • Rooftop lounge is "one of the best places in town to watch a sunset," says Lonely Planet
  • Originally built as the Tennessee Bank building -- the gym is housed in the 100-year-old vault
  • The hotel's restaurant serves Southern-style specialties like grilled Gulf oysters and shrimp and grits

Overview

Featuring 70 rooms and 40 suites, the Madison "is the best boutique hotel in the central business district, and oozes sophistication" (USA Today's 10Best.com). Housed in the historic Tennessee Trust Bank Building, this 4-star spot has a sleek look, swanky interiors and a great rooftop lounge in America’s "Blues City."

The "sleek, modern rooms" (Guardian) have contemporary finishes, art deco wallpaper and artwork that pays tribute to the area’s rock 'n' roll history. Rooms also feature flat-panel TVs, in-room Keurig coffeemakers and down comforters. Plush bathrobes and rainfall showerheads come standard, while suites have a separate living room and a jetted tub.

Make sure you venture upstairs to the Twilight Sky Terrace, which 10Best.com called a "super-chic space with commanding views of the Mississippi." The bar offers cocktails, small plates and seating around an open fire pit, and Lonely Planet calls it “one of the best places in town to watch a sunset." The nightly happy hours can easily turn into late-night parties; a DJ spins Thursday-Saturday nights.

Remember to pack your workout gear as the hotel has a gym, recently featured in Men’s Health Magazine, carved out of the 100-year-old bank vault and newly restocked with state-of-the-art equipment. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the hotel, and guests can arrange for in-room massage or yoga sessions.

Just three blocks away is the mighty Mississippi River and the iconic Beale Street, dotted with blues, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll venues. Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded their first hits, is a short tram ride away. Graceland, Presley’s former home and final resting place, is a 20-minute drive.

From the press:
  • "A chic, urban, boutique hotel" -- The Guardian
  • "An upscale boutique property offering sumptuous furnishings, first-class service, and rooftop river views" -- Frommer's
  • "Guests and chic locals head to the rooftop garden bar for happy hour against sunset views of downtown Memphis and the Mississippi River" -- Travel + Leisure

We (a couple in our 40's) stayed in the Calliope King Suite to celebrate our anniversary. Beautiful and spacious, the suite was like a one bedroom apartment. The hotel location in the Garden District was a perfect location for us. We Uber'ed around town easily and inexpensively and also rode the St. Charles streetcar located right out in front of the hotel. A beautiful renovation in June 2016 restored the hotel back to the timelessness and charm of the early 1920's. Fabulous!
