Why We Love It

  • Poised in the epicenter of San Diego’s Little Italy, less than a 10-minute drive from major attractions
  • Impressive views from the fourth-floor restaurant
  • Comfy guest rooms with modern decor and complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Complimentary extras include shuttle service to the airport and cruise terminal 13 hours per day

In the heart of San Diego’s urban center, hip culture meets Old World feel in Little Italy. Shoppers flock to the Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market on Saturdays to purchase fresh produce. Pasta, wine, burgers and delicious desserts are easily found at the area’s restaurants and pubs.

Start a vacation in the center of the action at Porto Vista Hotel. The location is a bit of a trek on foot to well-known attractions, but a 10-minute drive delivers guests to familiar sites like the San Diego Zoo and USS Midway Museum.

Stop in Glass Door Restaurant to take in views of the city and harbor from its location on the property's fourth floor. Nosh on a tempura shrimp wrap or sample a Mediterranean tasting plate. Market-fresh seafood, cocktails and sweets also adorn the menu. Breakfast and brunch are also served.

As the sun dips below the horizon, head back to a guest room where floor-to-ceiling murals adorn the walls and complimentary Wi-Fi access makes it easy to stay in touch. Some rooms offer guests views of the bay.

From the press:
  • “This former budget motel has transformed into a contemporary hotel-motel with modern furnishings, a stylish restaurant and lounge” -- Fodor’s
  • “Proving you needn't have wads of cash to be stylish, the owners of this Little Italy inn managed to dress up an old motel with enough extras to make it a fun place to do more than simply sleep” -- Frommer’s

The people that worked there were friendly and accommodating. It was nice to have breakfast included and the view from Glass Door was beautiful. There was a nice gym that I used. Location was good.
Other Comments
It was okay but not a place I'd stay again. The rooms were dark and dingy/dreary.

resort? I think not. It's and old motel with refurbished rooms. No space, a swimming pool that is 3' wide and 10' long designed to hold 3 1/2 ' of water but only filled to the 1' line. No a gym of no consequence which occupies in unfurnished bedroom. No other amenities. A resort fee is uncalled for. Breakfast is of the cheapest ingredients and offers no choices. We reserved a room with two queen beds and got two double beds. We were cramped and uncomfortable.

The staff, for the most part, was kind. The car parkers were great, the location was very good.
Other Comments
Room not ready at 4:30 (3pm is check in), water pressure in shower nonexistent and couldn't full turn off the tap, very noisy outside with people in the halls and above/below you. Basically it was a motel..

Hotel needs a facelift. The "pool" is not a pool and was empty. It was noisy. Atmosphere is more like a college dorm than a boutique hotel.

Valet are great and quick.
Other Comments
Loud guests were drinking swearing and smoking outside our room but when we called it was not dealt with. We had to leave the hotel instead of resting.
