Visit Tulum & Coba.
Dramatically perched above the Caribbean Sea, the Mayan ruins of Tulum wow travelers to Riviera Maya, the resort-laden area south of Cancun. Deal Expert Darlene Carenza recommends visiting Xcaret Park. "It’s especially great for families; we loved floating through the underground river."
Sail the Sea of Cortez.
Picturesque sunsets above the iconic El Arco rock formation, and of course the infamous nightlife scene, draw crowds to Cabo San Lucas. “Those looking for a more low-key experience should stay near the historic city of San Jose Del Cabo,” says Deal Expert Mary Walker Baus. The two are separated by a 20-mile-long hotel corridor.
Pair beaches and bars.
More than a spring break mecca, Cancun has affordable vacations available year-round. "Cancun is the quintessential lounge-on-the-beach-then-dance-all-night destination. After a day in the sun, head to the lively bars in downtown; most hotels even offer free shuttles," says Deal Expert Erin Oliveri.
Linger on this island.
An hour from Playa del Carmen, the island is a popular cruise stop. Deal Expert Angela Shannon suggests “springing for an excursion rather than just stepping off the ship and exploring” for a chance to discover more of the island. Many day-trippers opt for snorkeling and ATV Tours; Angela also recommends venturing to the Mayan ruins.
Swoon over the sunsets.
Puerto Vallarta is known for its romantic sunsets, which cast brilliant colors on the mountains, ocean and colonial downtown. Humpback whales splash in Banderas Bay. "I love the balance of ocean and jungle here," says Deal Expert Lily Fu. "I rode ATVs in the day and released a baby sea turtle into the Pacific Ocean at sunset."
