There's plenty of pool to pick from at the Riviera South Beach. The first is on the ground floor, on a terra-cotta patio framed by the walls of 1940s deco buildings and landscaped with potted palms and cabanas. The second pool is upstairs, on the roof of the hotel's newer building, with cushy beds ringing around the pool and no walls blocking the 360-degree view of the Miami Beach skyline.
If you prefer horizons to skylines, you can take the short, two-block toddle east to the beach, which in this area is a little tamer and posher than points farther south. About two blocks in the other direction is the hulking Miami Beach Convention Center, a focal point for winter's Art Basel and other events throughout the year.
The hotel mixes classic Art Deco lines with Hollywood Regency glitz. Mirrored tables, zebra-print seating and chrome light fixtures greet guests in the lobby. Standard rooms are neutral and simple, with leather furnishing and dark wood floors. One-bedroom suites fill the extra space with drama: deep navy walls, cowhide rugs and zebrawood cabinetry in the small kitchen. If you don't need the space of a suite, aim for a standard room in the newer wing.
