The boat was quite small which was great because it felt like we were able to get closer to the whales than the bigger whale watching boats. It also was able to go really fast which is just fun. The whales were beautiful of course but I also really enjoyed the scenery and the water birds, the seals and sea lions and the fresh air.

Incredible beauty

We were extremely pleased with the 3+ hour tour we took with Five Star Whale Watching in Victoria, BC. From the time the tour was booked to the time we left the boat, communication was easy, professional and extremely pleasant. The company was diligent in their safety procedures making sure we knew of all precautions to be taking on the boat both for our physical and Covid safety. The day we chose for our tour tour was perfect. We were on the catamaran and had four crew members with us. It was not crowded and we were able to enjoy the incredible amount of information the crew shared about the whales and other wildlife, the area and it's history and the environment. I highly recommend this tour.

Safe, informative, knowledgeable staff on board

Emma was knowledgeable and accommodating At 3 hrs we had not seen any orcas so Emma asked if our group had tonget back. As none if us had too, they received word of a pod sighted in US waters so off we boated. Saw the orcas. Total of 5 hr trip. Well worth it.

We had a fantastic time on the Salish Shadow with Captain Kaegan and Captain in training, Emma!! Emma was fun and cheery and Kaegan was so full of information and stories as well as knowledgeable history of the area. We got to see some Orcas which, of course, was the height of our trip. Both Keagan & Emma made it an enjoyable trip to say the least. We will be going back with more family & friends yet again this month. Can’t wait!

We had some windy conditions that the Captain handled amazingly and did his best to keep us safe, entertained with history stories and give us some fun!

We all thoroughly enjoyed the 3 hour tour, we saw 3 pods of whales socializing together. Amazing!

Overall it was a great experience and the boat had a covered inside so you could stay dry in the nasty weather.

Staff was great, glad we saw whales

I think we saw the only 2 whales in the area (2 Minke whales) and that was unfortunate after all the effort the company made to find more whales. There just weren't many around.

It was great. Difficult day to find whales (fog rolling in and out) but they did an excellent job or persisting until we were able to spot four.

Staff went out of their way to make sure we saw whales. Our 3 hour tour was out for 4 hours to ensure this. Don't schedule another activity to follow immediately after expected end time. We sat in the seat at front of boat, a bit of a rough ride but fun. Staff kept checking that we were still happy up there.

The company supplies heavy jackets which are needed. Make sure you dress warmly and use sun screen.

Booking was a bit difficult using the travelzoo voucher, we had to call to book, could not book online. In addition about 5 days prior to our tour they called to change it to another date (not enough people booked for our date), but as we'd booked several months in advance and were travelling from another province to visit family and friends, it was difficult for us to move our schedule around to accommodate this last minute change (didn't help that they called on a long weekend, in the middle of our wedding festivities). The tour itself was good - the staff was knowledgeable about finding whales and keeping distance from them to avoid stress to the marine life. We saw 4 humpback whales (2 x individuals; 1 x cow/calf pair). We also saw some seals, a colony of sea lions at Race Rocks Ecological Reserve, and a river otter feeding. Many different sea birds as well. They provided great commentary on the various animals we saw as well. Overall the tour was worthwhile, but the booking process was not easy. We were out for a full 3 hours, which was great, as we did have to go back to shore due to one group arriving late. Good COVID protocols, everyone had a temperature check and had to show proof of vaccination. Boat wasn't overloaded with people.
