Durker Roods Hotel is in the picturesque West Yorkshire village of Meltham, on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park.

The manor house dates back to 1870 and was once the private residence of Huddersfield entrepreneur Sir David Brown, who owned Aston Martin from 1946-1972, and after whom the famous DB series of cars is named. The building has maintained many of its original features, with traditional décor -- including fireplaces and chandeliers -- complemented by contemporary comforts such as free Wi-Fi. There’s also a modern restaurant serving traditional British cuisine for lunch and dinner.

The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Holmfirth, which has a selection of shops and tea rooms. Tours and wine-tasting sessions are available at the award-winning Holmfirth Vineyard. Shibden Hall & Park, EUREKA! National Children's Museum, Kirklees Light Railway and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park are all around 30 minutes' drive away.

For a day trip, the Brontë Parsonage Museum in pretty Haworth, Royal Armouries Leeds, Harewood House, the Emmerdale Studio Experience, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and York Racecourse are all around an hour's drive from the hotel.

The countryside surrounding the hotel has featured in numerous British TV series and films, including "Happy Valley", "Emmerdale" and "Last of the Summer Wine", much of which was filmed in Holmfirth. There's now a museum and an open-top bus tour to showcase the famous locations from the TV series.

The area is prime hiking territory, with some of the Peak District's most famous walks within a 10-minute drive of the hotel. After a day of exploring, you can enjoy the views across the rolling hills from the hotel bar, lounge or outdoor beer garden.

Bed comfy, evening meal was delicious, breakfast was hit and miss in terms of supply and demand. But when we did have the food it was lovely. Staff worked really hard and were very helpful.

We stayed in room one which was lovely. But, it’s over the main door and the guests leaving the birthday party woke us up several times when waiting for their taxis.

All staff pleasant, helpful, and efficient Our bedroom was quiet, clean, well furnished but needed a little tlc in places - rips in wallpaper and ill fitting curtains. Mentioned this on hotel questionnaire.
Other Comments
Had a pre dinner drink in the bar - a large room, comfortable seats but felt it lacked atmosphere despite the friendly barman. Evening meal was excellent and well priced. Large choice for cooked breakfast but very limited choice of cereals and yoghurts.
