"The desk clerk wasn’t aware of the extras that came with our Travelzoo special. This made it embarrassing to ask. The $30 sparkling wine was valued at $8.99 online. They never offered the $20 voucher and I didn’t ask about it. During checking, they asked about upgrading to a better room for $30. I wish I had because I think it was probably the room shown in the Travelzoo top 20 - our room was a “normal” room"
Though rooms here feel updated with modern furnishings and plenty of light, we love the nods to the hotel's 150 years of history (cocktail in the library or billiards room, anyone?)
For intrepid guests, we suggest joining the daily tour of room 311 — it's purportedly haunted
From the hotel, you'll be a short walk to the Chattanooga Riverwalk, restaurants and distilleries downtown, and top museums like the Tennessee Aquarium; you'll also be 20 minutes to hiking at nearby Lookout Mountain
Overview
Recently restored to its original 1920s glory, the Gatsby-esque lobby boasts opulent chandeliers, black and white checkered marble floors, velvet armchairs and grand archways. Tastefully styled and centrally located, The Read House is near the Tennessee Riverwalk, AT&T Ballpark, University of Tennessee Chattanooga and the Tennessee Aquarium. Historic elements are found throughout the hotel, including a library area, billiards room and an old-school phone booth. Room 311 is even said to be haunted by the ghost of a past guest -- daily tours of this spooky room are available for those who are brave enough.
Chattanooga is rooted in history but also an increasingly popular destination known for its up-and-coming culinary scene, trendy bars, shops, art galleries and easy access to outdoor activities. Enjoy an array of activities like hiking, rock climbing, museums and the top rated Tennessee Aquarium, all of which can be reached by foot or by Chattanooga's free electric shuttle that stops right outside the hotel. Also nearby are Lookout Mountain and Ruby Falls, two popular outdoor destinations for visitors and locals alike.
Rooms are spacious and come standard with SmartTVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, and Keurig coffee makers. Guests have access to the indoor pool and fitness center, as well as the full-service Starbucks, located just off the main lobby. The Bar & Billiards room serves signature cocktails and small plates in a speakeasy-inspired space. For more upscale fare, visit Bridgeman's Chophouse for a steak or fresh seafood.

Cool old hotel with really nice modern rooms with nicely done bathroom. Great location within reasonable walking distance to a ton of downtown attractions. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great restaurant and bar in the hotel.

Valet only, but very efficient. Only one elevator working for our trip and they are old and a bit slow, so if it is really busy, can be a wait. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The only downer was only ONE elevator for all hotel guests. The 2nd elevator was broken and never worked. The elevator delays were inappropriate for a hotel in this class.

Everything fine, although we never received one of the Travelzoo extras (the sparkling wine) and we could only use the food credit at the Starbucks. The restaurant was full and the bar wasn't open. And even that was mostly a waste as all we got for the $20 credit was coffee and a roll. The valet parking seemed a bit much as we brought the car in after dinner and it was still in the same place we left it in the morning. But everybody was nice and the hotel was very nice.

In the restaurant, they charged $120 for a steak the waiter said was $60. There was a fly in my glass of wine. They took the cost of the wine off the bill but nothing else, not even a free dessert. And the hotel promised the free bottle of champagne would be delivered to our room that night but it never was delivered.

We've just wanted to go visit Chattanooga as we had never stayed a night there before. This was a real treat at the Read House. We just kept our car parked there for the entire 3-night stay and just walked out and took the free shuttle and seen the city that way! When we checked out the last day we then drove up to see Ruby Falls. Everything was beautifully decorated and clean at The Read House and we were able to take a lot of pictures there as my husband has taken up photography as a hobby since retiring and it gave him a .good backdrop to take many pictures of me in. I'm sure he'll be busy editing for days now! We love old buildings and being able to see what they did in their renovating of the Read House was great too as they did a great job on it!

For the second time in a row, I was not charged the travelzoo rate for our stay. I caught it before we left this time and the staff quickly resolved the matter. Last time at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, it wasn't apparent until my credit card statement arrived well after our stay. Travelzoo customer service resolved it for me then. Kudos to travelzoo!

We had confirmed a room with two queens (three people) and were given a room with one king. No apology and no acknowledgment of a mistake on their end. Took them about 20 minutes to get us into another room, which was an issue because we were needing to get showered and ready to go to an event. The AC was really loud--to the point where the volume on the TV had to be turned way up every time it came on.

I visited both the Silver Ballroom and the famous room 311 where I had a private tour and several communications from Ms. Annalisa Netherly, the spirit who lost her life in the room back in the 1920s. The room 311 will be closed for tours in another month or so (September or October 2019), so hurry to see it soon. I understand it will be available for rent after that. Al Capone also stayed in that room before going to trail for tax evasion. LK-P

Everything was great. It was very unfortunate that the dining area is extremely small and was booked solid way before we arrived to the hotel. Small things were missing from the room like the hair dryer and robes. The rooms are very spacious but plain and vending machines are hard to find. Valet parking is a bit expensive for everyday when the rooms cost so much to stay in to being with. I was very pleased that everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The view wasn’t the best from our room but no biggie.
