The Menorcan resort of Arenal d'en Castell is known for its "perfect shell-shaped bay" (The Independent), and White Sands Beach Club occupies a prime position right on the curving beachfront.
Set in palm-lined grounds, this laid-back hotel occupies a modern Mediterranean-style complex of whitewashed buildings and is a short walk from the resort centre. Golf Son Parc is a 15-minute drive away, while Mahón, the island's capital and home to one of the largest natural harbours in the world is around 20 minutes' drive away. Both Ca n'Oliver, a "magnificent mansion... exquisitely restored into an engaging multimedia museum" (Lonely Planet) and nature reserve Parc Natural S'Albufera des Grau with its freshwater lagoon are within a 25-minute drive of the hotel.
Guests can soak up the sun on the terrace, cool off in the sea-view outdoor pool and relax in the hot tub. The on-site bar/café serves snacks and drinks, and other activities include mini golf, table tennis and pool. There's also a children's pool and a kids' play area, plus a business centre.
Opening to balconies or patios, the studios and 1- to 3-bedroom apartments sleep up to six people and are decorated in soft neutral tones with wood furnishings and tiled floors. All include kitchens and free Wi-Fi, as well as TVs, DVD players and iPod docks. Apartments add living rooms with sofabeds, and some are on two levels. Units with three bedrooms have bunk beds.
