Opened in 1937, the Monte Vista Hotel is housed in a former schoolhouse and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Throughout its lifetime, the property has added a second structure and undergone renovations to offer modern amenities. Located in Black Mountain, the boutique hotel is a five-minute walk from the charming town square’s restaurants, shops and museums. The surrounding area offers year-round outdoor activities including skiing, hiking and winery tours.

The intimate hotel has only 45 guest rooms, each uniquely outfitted with mountain-inspired décor. All accommodations include hardwood floors, Wi-Fi, bottled water and king or queen beds. Bathrooms feature showers and tubs, vessel sinks and rustic tilework.

Milton’s, the on-site restaurant, sources regional ingredients for its Southern cuisine and is open Wednesday through Saturday for dinner, as well as weekend brunch. Guests can also stop in the bar for a cocktail, local craft beer or glass of wine before exploring the town.

Very convenient location and the staff was incredible. All staff members were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. Quite a contrast to what we experience at most chain hotels these days.

A most enjoyable place to spend a night or two. And Black Mountain itself is a nice town too!

Wonderful restaurant, hotel 100 yrs. old, but quaint and comfortable. Lovely patio area with gas fire to take off the chill. Staff were friendly and helpful. Walkable to downtown shops and restaurants.

We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard area with the fire pit in the evenings. We also really enjoyed the charm and history of the building.

Everything about our stay was wonderful. The hotel has a lot of charm and character, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. Even though there were some improvements being done during our stay (painting and other maintenance), we were never disturbed in any way. We will certainly be back to stay at the Monte Vista again in the future!

Extremely pet friendly in a very pet friendly town. Made it easy to travel with our Cocker Spaniel who rarely gets left behind.

Only struggle was being on third floor with no elevator, but the staff is very eager to help when unloading and loading. Rated the rooms lower due to the lack of elevator and lack of decor. Pretty basic with nothing on the walls- could use some cozying up.

Christian at the front desk is a tremendous asset to the Hotel - he made our stay especially nice! The lobby and common areas were wonderful - great ambiance! The room was a little sparse but clean and tidy. The entire staff went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our trip to Black Mountain. They served an exceptional breakfast bar with many good choices (hot scones each morning!). I would not hesitate to recommend the Monte Vista -

The staff was amazing ! The food was amazing. Not mentioned was that there was a free Continental breakfast included which was also amazing....Seating in the eating and lounging areas including outdoors was plentiful, spacious, comfortable, clean and pleasant. Main restaurant that was not open Mondays and Tuesdays was also superb in service, food, and atmosphere.....

The area was extremely pleasant to wander the streets, shops, and restaurants. Again, all proprietors and staff were extremely upbeat and friendly and efficient...

Historic building, tasteful decor, quiet room, pleasant outdoor patio area.

There was a large dog belonging to a guest that was allowed to roam about unleashed. When we returned from dinner and were entering the front door, it charged toward us barking. It was very unsettling. I think dogs at a hotel should be on a leash or crated at all times.
