"The Yukon’s gold nugget of a capital is picturesque, pristine and steeped in history" -- Style at Home

Why We Love It

  • Close to the MacBride Museum and S.S. Klondike National Historic Site
  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stayed here in 2016
  • The on-site restaurant has a large heated patio, open all year
  • Free amenities include Wi-Fi, parking and airport shuttle

There's no debating that the Yukon is unique -- it witnessed one of the greatest gold rushes in history, is home to the highest peak in Canada (Mount Logan) and hosts one of the hardest and longest dogsled races in the world: 1,000 miles, to be exact.

Every season has its draws. Winter brings dogsledding, cross-country skiing, ice fishing and snowshoeing, while spring, summer and fall are about hiking, horse riding, rafting, cycling and fishing. Northern lights viewing is best from late August to mid-April.

Whitehorse, the Yukon's capital, has numerous art galleries, museums, restaurants and bars, and a vibrant community. It's also home to the Coast High Country Inn.

You can't miss the hotel -- just look for the 40-foot-tall wooden Mountie at the entrance. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge certainly didn’t when they stayed here as part of their 2016 Canada tour.

Dine in the hotel's restaurant The Deck, which has a year-round heated patio that Conde Nast Traveller says is "downtown’s best." Try the Grizzly Beer, which is brewed exclusively for the hotel by the Yukon Brewing Company.

Whitehorse highlights include the MacBride Museum, S.S. Klondike National Historic Site and a ride on the restored 1925 Waterfront Trolley.

Adventure outside of Whitehorse and discover why it's nicknamed the Wilderness City. At the Takhini Hot Springs, a 30-minute drive from the hotel, there's no light pollution, making northern lights viewing ideal.
