Overview

The Gables in Ambleside has easy access to the natural wonders and pretty villages of the Lake District National Park.

The Victorian property is on the edge of parkland a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ambleside, "an attractive little town" which is "a favourite base for hikers" (Lonely Planet).

Lake Windermere is five minutes' drive away and Bowness is 15 minutes' drive from the guesthouse. Coniston Water, offering "a quiet beauty that sets it apart from the more popular destinations" (Rough Guides), is around 25 minutes by car. Bustling Kendal, home to the famous mint cake, is 30 minutes' drive away.

The Gables' 19th-century exterior gives way to a modern interior, which features a guest lounge. Cooked breakfast made from locally sourced ingredients is served in the informal dining room hung with colourful artworks, and further amenities include bike storage and a drying room.

The hotel was very easy to find and walking distance to all amenities. A warm welcome on arrival was received and help was offered for any luggage up to your room. The room was well laid out and clean with washing facilities supplied along with a hairdryer. We found the bed comfortable. Our room was located at the front of the hotel but was not disturbed by any noise, as the road in front of the hotel finished at the church. We found it to be a great base to explore other areas of the Lake District. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the staff were very friendly.

This B&B has the perfect location for the town restaurants, bars and walking. The B&B is lovely up to date and really comfortable, also has a drying room for those wet days when you get soaked!. Our room was modern, clean and had a lovely comfortable bed. The breakfast was also good and the staff more than helpful.
