Overview

Samlesbury Hall Shepherd's Hut Hamlet is a colourful collection of luxury converted shepherd's huts that sit in the grounds of historic Samlesbury Hall, a medieval stately home with regular exhibitions, events and guided tours.

Visit England calls it "luxury accommodation with a rural edge". The novel huts have two double beds with memory-foam mattresses, cosy central heating and ensuite bathrooms with a spacious shower, hot water, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries. There are also tea- and coffee-making facilities in the huts and free Wi-Fi throughout the site.

There's a restaurant in Samlesbury Hall -- breakfast is £10 per person (served from 8-10am, must be booked in advance), while lunch and afternoon tea is also available. Dottie's Wafflery serves up a selection of sweet treats. In the evening, escape to the on-site fire pit for a campfire, light up the barbecue or dine at one of the picnic tables dotted around the grounds.

There's plenty to keep the whole family busy on site, including the Bee & Heritage Centre, the menagerie of animals, the mini-golf course and the woodland Mayflower Playground.

The Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Ribble Valley and the Tolkien Trail -- a walking route through landscapes that inspired several locations in The Lord of the Rings -- are less than 25 minutes' drive away. Brockholes Nature Reserve is just over five minutes by car. Manchester and Liverpool are around a 50-minute drive away.

There are dog-friendly huts available -- please enquire on booking.

The hut could have done with the floor being swept. There was no shower gel in the dispenser.

Brand new hut and peaceful location.
Other Comments
Although huts are lovely, it would be a squeeze to accommodate 4 adults in one.

Only 3 towels for 4 of us (when it sleeps 4, you dont expect to be missing towels). 2 cleaning issues; the mugs provided for tea/coffee (probably just stained) but looked dirty. Not a nice sight when you turn mug over to make a drink. Need stain-free mugs. Second thing is floor was filthy, needs a hoover & mop. We saw the cleaners and they had neither of these. We had a brilliant time, just the cleanliness put us off a bit you dont expect there to be muck on the floor when you stay somewhere.

It was just like a hotel room, lovely clean bedding, comfy beds and bathroom with shower.
Other Comments
More benches need to be available outside each hamlet, we had no bench to use as another family were using them so were left with nothing to sit on, one bench per 3 hamlets is not enough, only certain hamlets have firepits so people were pinching them from other hamlets, also needs wifi.

The hall and grounds close to the general public at 4pm but if you're staying in the hamlet you are able to continue to look around the grounds which are a delight and so peaceful
Other Comments
Disappointing that there are not enough fire pits for each hut to have its own
