Why We Love It

  • Rises above Lake Ontario with "a spectacular view" (CBC) of the water from hotel rooms, restaurants and the 28th-floor indoor/outdoor pool
  • Boasts a 90,000-square-foot sports complex, including four indoor tennis courts, nine squash courts and a hot yoga room
  • The hotel commissioned about 800 images by nature photographer Neil Dankoff; they're sprinkled throughout the property and in its rooms
  • A 15-minute walk to the trendy bars and restaurants of Liberty Village

Overview

You've spent the day playing tennis, indulging in an in-room massage and lounging by the rooftop pool amidst expansive water views. Who would have guessed you're also less than 10 minutes from Toronto's Union Station?

This is the brand-new Hotel X, the city's "first resort-style hotel" (Toronto Star). Even though its official grand opening has yet to come (soft opening was March 20), it already boasts facilities you’d be hard-pressed to find at any other Toronto property.

Light streams into the massive sports complex. Hit a few balls on one of the four indoor tennis courts, nine squash courts or at the golf simulator. Warm up with cardio in the sprawling fitness centre, then stretch out with a session in the dedicated yoga and hot yoga rooms.

To cool off, head to the 28th floor to swim surrounded by views of Lake Ontario in the 50-foot, indoor/outdoor pool. Prefer to stay out of the sun? You can still enjoy the view inside Falcon SkyBar, drink in hand.

Some of Toronto’s best entertainment, sports and concert venues are minutes away. BMO Field, Budweiser Stage and RBC Echo Beach are all within a 10-minute walk, as is the Canadian National Exhibition when the Ex is on (Aug. 17 - Sept. 3, 2018). In between shows and games, take a waterfront stroll, or cruise the harbour in a tall ship. Want to head into the financial or entertainment districts? Take a BMW X5 to any destination within 5 kilometres, courtesy of the hotel’s complimentary house car service.

When you return to your room, step into a walk-in shower or sink into a soaker tub and relax with top-of-the-line toiletries from L’Occitane. Before the 10-room spa opens in late 2018, take advantage of spa treatments available right in your unit.

From the press:

  • "The hotel ... has a spectacular view of the lake" -- CBC
  • "Caters to the conference-going crowd, but the resort-like complex has enough amenities to entertain anyone else who comes along" -- Toronto Life

Rooftop pool with food and bevvies

The staff are amazingly friendly. This hotel is nice, beautiful views, but not worth what they are asking per night
Other Comments
We were nice and high (21st floor) but the windows are poor and we could still hear the traffic. There is nothing close by for food (other than the at the hotel), the beds are too soft, the rooftop bar is poorly stocked. The cleaning staff threw out drinks (closed bottles) and didn't restock the fridge. The bathroom door (sliding along the wall) looks sleek but offers zero privacy when using the bathroom. The tub is nice and deep if you want to soak but the lip is wide and difficult to get over. I never did figure out how the hot/cold works for the shower.

The view from our room was fabulous overlooking the lake. The artwork throughout the hotel and the gallery were absolutely wonderful.
Other Comments
The only complaint we had about our stay was the light on the ceiling just inside the door. It is nice that the light comes on when you enter the room but in the middle of the night when you get up to go to the bathroom it is not so nice because it stays on for awhile which wakes you up so you can't get back to sleep. There should be a switch on the wall so that you could shut this light off at night.
