Overview

Chicheley Hall is an English country house built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. It was bought by the Royal Society and now also serves as the Kavli Royal Society International Centre, a facility dedicated to the advancement of science.

The property has original period features, ornate chandeliers, grand staircases and a great hall that was used in the filming of "Pride and Prejudice".

The restaurant serves classic British and European dishes. Afternoon tea can be served in the garden (weather permitting).

Milton Keynes is less than 10 minutes away by car. This famous new town turned 50 in 2017 -- you can visit its plethora of restaurants and bars, or search for the Concrete Cows, iconic sculptures created by Canadian artist Liz Leyh.

Woburn Safari Park, a wildlife park with over 1000 animals including elephants, tigers and black bears, is approximately 15 minutes' drive away.

The place itself and it's grounds. We didn't get the opportunity to sit out on a November visit but we did have a walk round. The wood panels and creaky floorboards in the hotel were a welcome change from today's modern establishments.

Service was almost laughable at times. Our (expensive) wine at dinner was almost slammed on the table and wasn't even opened for us. Sunday morning breakfast was busy (although a small dining area), tables weren't cleared very quickly and guests were constantly having to ask for tea/coffee and for the buffet to be replenished. Monday set out to be better as breakfast was cooked to order however unfortunately everything was overcooked. Both evening meals were good and nicely presented though.

We had to change rooms due to window rattling in the wind.. also the lift noise as our room was next to the lift, the next room was much larger and OK.

We loved our stay at Chicheley Hall. First time we went in April and fell in love with it , so much that we went back and enjoyed it just as much. Friendly helpful staff, wonderful food. The grounds are beautiful so relaxing and tranquil.

I like a hotel which has character rather than a very modern hotel which can be soulless , the grounds were very good too much better than in a big town or city
