Fishguard Bay Hotel is a 19th-century property with views of the Pembrokeshire coast and the Irish Sea. It's in the seaside town of Fishguard, the site of the last invasion of Britain. The Battle of Fishguard Cannons, which were used to deter the invading French in 1797, are a 5-minute drive from the hotel.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park boasts forests, wild flowers, seabird colonies and hilltop stone fortresses. You can reach it via the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which passes right by the hotel.

Strumble Head is 15 minutes' drive away. This rocky headland is a great spot from which to watch migrating seabirds, and there is a lighthouse on a picturesque island reached by a suspension bridge. Blue Lagoon -- the site of a former slate quarry that is now a popular adventure-sport destination -- is 30-minute drive away, as is Castell Henllys, a reconstructed Iron Age hillfort and archaeological site.

The Preseli Hills, where you can stand in Neolithic stone circles and see the Bronze Age burial sites on the Mountain of the Dead, are 35 minutes' drive away. Local legend says that the Tylwyth Teg (fairy folk) will lure any unsuspecting traveller on the hills at night into the underworld.

Pentre Ifan, the site of the largest and best preserved Neolithic tombs in Wales, is 40 minutes' drive away, while Pembroke Castle is 50 minutes' drive away. This Grade I-listed stronghold built in the 12th century sits on the shore of a picturesque millpond.

The restaurant, which overlooks Fishguard Bay, uses locally sourced ingredients and can cater for vegetarians and other dietary requests.

The room is very good with modern suite. I would suggest the hotel to promote their bar and restaurant by putting a menu, or a chef recommendation etc in the room. Also the exterior balcony need a paint and a clean on the floor will brighten up the first impression from outside. Due to its location next to the ferry to Ireland, I will suggest they can add this on its advertisement so guest are aware they can stop at the hotel, hop on the ferry for a day trip or for a few days then back again.

We enjoyed our stay. However, although the public areas were very good, the bedroom we had was rather ‘tired’ and could do with a bit of refurbishment. Must stress though - it was clean. So no problem.

We weren't expecting anything spectacular, as the price was low, but this hotel is very, very tired. Mouldy wall in the bathroom and the divan base of one of the beds was grubby. The walls were thin, so we could hear next door's conversations. It could be a lovely hotel, but unfortunately needs a lot of money spending on it. We enjoyed the scenery, the weather and the walking, but not the hotel.

This hotel is warm, comfortable and steeped in a superb 'spirit' - no, not Gin, but it holds in its very fabric a sense of homeliness and a feelgood factor that just isn't in any modern hotel - it seems to carry a 'spirit' of itself within the very fabric of the building, right through to the lovely way that the staff are both efficient and warm in their dealings with you (as a customer).

A Perfectly charming hotel with an ambience second to none. The food is well presented and of a high quality. The views across the bay are amazing - providing you have the weather... The decor, we found, iis in good order and warm. Our room was large and had a very contemporary feel to it, despite having the very Victorian high ceilings and long French windows leading to the balcony.

The sea view rooms very excellent and the views stunning. The food was good value for money and staff could not do enough for you. The outside needs a little TLC balcony railings need a paint but inside rooms really good.

Although excellent value, the hotel is a little 'tired' and probably needs major investment for refurbishment. Having said that our room was large with a lovely sea view and a comfy bed.
