"It is a beautiful property and great location to explore the wine country. The suite was big and beautiful. It was quiet and very relaxing. Couple of suggestions: 1) Breakfast needs to be improved. Scrambled eggs were cold, ran out of toast (Bread slices), etc. There was no personal touch. It was mediocre at best. Reminded me of breakfast at a 3-star hotel chain. 2) Two complementary wine tasting coupons at VJB and Wellington wineries - both these wineries make substandard wines compared to many other surrounding wineries in the area. It was a waste of time. Not a good experience for the first-time visitors to the area. 3) Need to provide more personal touch and interaction with the guests. Throughout our two nights stay none of the hotel staff came by to say hello or asking how our stay was, etc. This could be easily done during the breakfast time and during the wine reception. This was our second time visit. Overall, we had wonderful time, and we look forward to visiting again. Little improvements here and there could make the experience even more enjoyable."

Overview

Nestled on 1.5 landscaped acres bordering the Calabazas Creek, the Gaige House has transformed several times over more than a century -- from a private home to a school house, a brothel and finally a meat market -- before being made over into a bed-and-breakfast in the 1980s.

All accommodations are outfitted in simple, elegant shades of cream, black and white with dark wood furniture, bamboo and rattan accents, and modern necessities like free Wi-Fi.

All stays include complimentary daily breakfast buffet as well as wine and cheese in the sitting room each evening. Throughout the day, guests can nibble on freshly baked cookies or sip port -- both are always available on a sideboard in the entryway. Guests can walk just five minutes to three of the town’s best restaurants: the Fig Café, sister property for Sonoma’s renowned The Girl and the Fig; the Glen Ellen Star, serving garden-to-table cuisine; and Glen Ellen Inn, a popular oyster and martini bar. The hotel is within a half mile of Sonoma Valley Regional Park and less than 2 miles from Jack London State Historic Park as well as Quarryhill Botanical Garden. Stays also include an evening cordial bar with port, sherry and sake as well as two passes per day to Parkpoint Health Club Sonoma featuring state of the art workout facilities, fitness classes and more.

After a day of sightseeing or wine tasting, guests can unwind in the heated outdoor pool and hot tub or book spa treatments on the Creekside deck, in a garden cabana or in the privacy of their rooms. The property’s design encourages visitors to kick back and relax with hammocks hanging from the ancient oaks, Adirondack chairs lining the pool and a rock garden with a pagoda and fountains.

This was a positive experience all around. The team at the Gaige is top notch. We encountered an issue with one of Mother Nature's creatures and the Gaige Team responded with kindness and generosity. We will definitely be back and will share our story of positivity. The rooms, the amenities and the Gaige Team are amazing!

What a peaceful and relaxing retreat! Loved the amenities like afternoon wine reception, cookies in the lobby and the tasty hot breakfast in the morning. Very cozy place to visit in late fall with the leaves changing color and the fire going in the common area. Great deal with the Travelzoo perks!
