Hotel Bonalba Alicante is a large resort-style hotel on the outskirts of the "dynamic, attractive Spanish city" (Lonely Planet) of Alicante.
The centre of Alicante is around 15 minutes' drive from the hotel, or there is a bus nearby that takes less than an hour. You can explore the narrow winding streets of the old town -- home to the main bars, restaurants and art galleries -- and take a stroll down Explanada de España, the palm-lined waterfront promenade that leads to the Marina.
One of Alicante's most popular sights is Santa Bárbara Castle, which sits on top of Mount Benacantil in the centre of the city. This medieval fortification is one of the largest in Europe and offers impressive views over the city and Mediterranean coast. It's free to visit if you drive or walk up the mountain path, or you can take an elevator for a small fee (free if you are disabled or an EU senior citizen).
The nearest beach, Playa de San Juan, is less than 15 minutes' drive from the hotel or around 35 minutes' by bus. Alternatively, there's plenty to keep guests entertained at the resort. You can lounge by the lake-style tropical swimming pool, relax in the spa, Turkish bath and sauna, or practice your swing on the 18-hole Bonalba Golf Course (fees apply). There's also a good choice of drinking and dining options, with a buffet restaurant, an à la carte restaurant, a café lounge and an Irish pub.
Wi-Fi is free.
