Classic architecture meets cosmopolitan design at Hotel Advance, which offers city-centre accommodation between Ciutat Vella, one of Barcelona’s oldest districts, and the Eixample area “a showcase for Modernista architecture…with high-end boutiques and wildly diverse nightlife” (Lonely Planet). Set amidst elegant buildings on a tree-lined street, the hotel occupies a former 19th-century aristocratic residence with carved wooden doors, shutters and wrought iron balconies. It’s a 3-minute walk from Universitat, the nearest metro station, and about 5 minutes’ walk from both the contemporary CCCB arts centre and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. Lively Plaça de Catalunya square and the La Rambla pedestrianised thoroughfare are a 10-minute walk away, whilst the Gothic Quarter, known for its narrow, winding streets and leafy squares, takes about 20 minutes to reach on foot. The landmark Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s unfinished church, is approximately 15 minutes away from the hotel by taxi.
Hotel Advance’s traditional façade gives way to modern interiors including a smart lobby lounge with plush sofas and a fireplace, where breakfast is served (fee). Guestrooms continue the chic vibe, decorated in soft neutral tones with wooden floors and furnishings. All include free Wi-Fi, TVs, mini bars and desks, whilst some have balconies. Higher tariff rooms add details such as complimentary mini bars and furnished private terraces, and top-level quarters come with iPod docks and living areas.
