"Had a great weekend stay at the NOPSI. The NOPSI is an interesting and beautifully renovated building. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The lobby is both comfortable and attractive. Both the lobby bar and restaurant bar serve well crafted cocktails. Our breakfast meals in the restaurant were excellent even when you consider the many food options available in NOLA. Most important, the staff at every position, doormen, front desk, waiters, bellmen, house keeping, concierge, manager, etc., are all friendly, welcoming and professional."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • About as centrally located as it gets: the hotel is only three blocks from Bourbon Street, five blocks to Lafayette Square and the Warehouse District
  • There's a year-round rooftop pool and terrace with sweeping skyline views, as well as an on-site gin bar and restaurant specializing in Gulf Coast cuisine
  • Rooms here are big, especially for downtown — starting at 370 square feet; they also boast some of the largest showers in the city

Nineteen-twenties' grandeur meets 21st-century amenities at the NOPSI in New Orlean's Central Business District. Following a $50 million renovation in 2017, the former headquarters for the city's power company began its new life as a 4.5-star hotel complete with trendy perks like the sceney rooftop pool or the gin bar located just off the lobby. The most compelling aspects, however, are the conspicuous reminders of its historic past: For instance, you'll find dramatically domed ceilings in the lobby and the same counter where NOLA residents once payed their utility bills.

The retro-chic vibe continues in the guest rooms, too, thanks to a brown-and-navy color palette that feels "vintage without being dated" (Forbes). Modern touches include in-room Nespresso machines, 50-inch flat-panel TVs, Wi-Fi and spacious subway-tiled showers in the bathroom, as well as twice-daily housekeeping. If you're looking for extra space, we suggest upgrading to one of the suites — they also come with deep soaking tubs in the bathrooms.

NOPSI guests enjoy easy access to the French Quarter (a five-minute walk), as well as the Warehouse District and Garden District. The Canal Street streetcar line is nearby, as is the Superdome and the Smoothie King Center, and it's a five-minute stroll to Bourbon Street. The hotel is also just a short ride-share to popular sites like the National World War II Museum.

Hotel is nice but not excellent, amenities are actually not up to par with most hotels of this star rating. I usually stay at Hotel Monteleone or The Roosevelt but received an offer to try NOPSI and I can't say I was impressed. My room walls were scuffed and dirty, a simple cleaning with a magic eraser would have eliminated these blemishes and for a 2 and a half year old hotel to have these markings is really just a sign of poor upkeep. I did not experience any housekeeping issues others have mentioned, my room was cleaned and replenished every day. But two major issues did happen during my stay. One - the reason for my stay was my 40th birthday, my boyfriend had called a week prior to our arrival to request champagne and strawberries when we arrived. After checking in there was nothing in the room. Since my birthday was the next day my boyfriend waited to see if they were just arriving late. Nope, nothing. So he had to leave to go downstairs to speak to someone. The very polite concierge informed my boyfriend she received no request. She was very apologetic and made it right but the fact that this request was lost or forgotten and my boyfriend had go through the process all over again because someone dropped the ball is really inexcusable for a hotel that's trying to compete with some pretty big hotels in the area that are customer experience oriented big names in the industry. Second - we checked out and left my boyfriend's cashmere sweater hanging in the closet. I called that day to advise and inquire how I could have it sent to me and the hotel uses this completely asinine and useless service that you have to fill out a missing form online through a third party company. 2 days and I am still waiting for a reply. This is beyond unacceptable, I called the same day and was offered no help whatsoever other than a sorry and a link to fill out a lost and found form. This isn't for a lost phone charger but for a $200 sweater and still nothing.

Nice hotel, good location but the room service was bad. 1/4 roll of toilet paper with no extras. Key lotion and shampoo was re-used from last guest and almost empty etc.

The hotel is beautiful and the bed, although I was afraid the mattress felt too soft, was very comfortable. The desk staff seemed to focus more on being professional than friendly. The travelzoo deal included a nightly mini drink at the hotel bar, however, I had to go back to the desk each day to get an additional pass and repeat the explanation. One staff member actually had me go to my room to get the confirmation which I incidentally printed prior to leaving home. After I presented, he actually admitted he was aware there had been a mix up with the terms for some of the bookings and they were honoring it. To have me go up to my room to retrieve my confirmation, therefore, came across as an unnecessary inconvenience. He did present me with an additional pass but it was irritating to have been put through that if he already was aware of there being an issue.

The two other issues were surprising for a luxury hotel. The toilet seat was loose- actually shifted out of place when sat upon! I had to make sure to sit on it carefully. It was also of note that they did not have coffee makers in the rooms. The hotel booklet stated coffee pots were available upon request, but I was told they did not have enough for all of the rooms and they were out. A coffee bar is available in the lobby during certain morning hours, but required the inconvenience of getting dressed early on a day that I intended to sleep in.
