The Sir Nikolai Hamburg is a modern boutique hotel that overlooks the Nikolaifleet canal in Hamburg's old town (Altstadt).
The property sits in the shadow of Sankt Katharinen, which is one of the city's oldest churches, and is less than 10 minutes' walk from both the Speicherstadt district -- where the warehouses tell the story of Hamburg’s maritime history -- and HafenCity, which is Hamburg's new quarter and is home to bars, restaurants and cafés.
You can dine on Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine at the restaurant, which features a retractable glass roof, and enjoy a nightcap on one of the two sun terraces that overlook the canal. There's an on-site spa for massages and treatments (supplements apply). The hip interiors combine marble, eclectic artwork, vintage furniture and statement chandeliers.
Each room offers free Wi-Fi, a rain shower, a pillow menu and a Bluetooth speaker pre-loaded with the entire back catalogue of Beatles songs. The band performed regularly in Hamburg in the early 1960s at venues like the Star-Club, the Indra Club and the Kaiserkeller -- the latter two still stand today.
