Overview

The Feathers Hotel is a boutique 4-star property in the market town of Woodstock on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 15 minutes' drive from Oxford. The hotel was converted from seven separate 17th-century houses and features open log fires, antique furniture and traditional English furnishings.

This "intimate and unique hotel" (The AA) is a few minutes' walk from the gates of Blenheim Palace -- a 17th-century stately home, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill (open daily).

There is a direct bus from Woodstock to Oxford, which takes around 30 minutes (this is often easier than driving into the city). Here, you can explore the city's "rich history, tradition and energetic academic life" (Lonely Planet), including its famous university colleges and museums. Stratford-upon-Avon -- the birthplace of Shakespeare -- is a 50-minute drive from the hotel.

You can learn about local history, art, archaeology, landscape and wildlife by visiting The Oxfordshire Museum, two minutes' walk from the hotel (free; open Tuesday-Sunday).

Featured in Harper's Bazaar and Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay, The Feathers Hotel has free-standing baths, an al fresco terrace and one of the world's largest collections of gins. There is also a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant with a modern British menu.

According to The AA, "individually styled bedrooms are appointed to a high standard and are furnished with attractive period and reproduction furniture". As the hotel is comprised of seven townhouses, some rooms are located in an adjacent building to the main part of the hotel. Wi-Fi is free.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Feathers hotel Woodstock. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and there was a log fire lit in the reception area. All of the staff were very friendly and Woodstock was very nice, a typical Cotswold gem.

reception excellent, staff service 'mostly' excellent, room (52) excellent BUT 2 issues -bed mattress well worn and tendency to slope into the centre and, 'herd of elephant' sounds when people went up and down the stairs (immediately outside the room!).

Food and restaurant staff excellent.

A great base for visiting Oxford, the village is quiet and the hotel very comfortable. The food is excellent and the portions generous, breakfast was very well set up with a superb range of fruits, yogurt and cereals, and the full English was very full! There are pleasant communal spaces aside from the gin bar and the room we had was very quiet with a comfortable bed, although another armchair would have improved it. The staff were notable for their cheeriness and helpfulness, all had smiles and a pleasant word, making us feel very welcome and cared for.

The whole experience was lovely. The location was perfect, such a pretty village. The food and service was incredible, everyone was lovely and friendly. We booked this hotel and it was in a perfect location for us, great way to spend our last evening away as a couple before our baby is due in less than 2 week.
Other Comments
The hotel was very hot, and at times, very uncomfortable. We could also hear people shouting outside, this went on till about 11, they were clearly having a good time but it was very loud.

A very 'Quaint' hotel, in the heart of Woodstock, and very handy if visiting Blenheim Palace. Very friendly staff, and food was excellent. Would certainly visit again.
