Sight-seeing families in San Diego tout the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa for its kid-friendly activities and central location.
Your kids may not care that the resort is overlooking scenic Mission Bay, but they will pay attention to the separate pools for swimming and splashing, life-sized checkerboard and “dive-in” movie nights.
Adrenaline-seeking older kids and their parents can take the winding path to the marina, where Jet-Skis, wakeboards and other water sports are on hand to get your motors running. Calmer family pursuits include classic games like croquet, ping-pong, volleyball and horseshoes. For even mellower fun, there’s a full-service spa and salon with a kids menu.
If the plans involve sights beyond the hotel, hop on the free shuttle for a five minute ride to Sea World or drive 15 minutes to Balboa Park, home to 17 museums and the renowned San Diego Zoo.
The hotel’s main restaurant, Acqua California Bistro, has an award-winning wine list and suggested pairings for each dish. For more casual fare, there’s a poolside bistro that includes kiddie favorites.
With all the amenities on-hand, you may not mind that there isn’t anywhere to shop or eat within walking distance of the hotel. But if you’re the kind of traveler that likes to explore, the ten minute drive to the pedestrian friendly sights of the Old Town District might be a nuisance.
