Map & Directions

It’s about 30-40 minutes by taxi from JFK Airport, depending on the traffic. The fare is approximately $50, before tip and toll. To reach the hotel by public transportation, take the AirTrain from JFK to Jamaica Station and then catch the E train into Manhattan. The 28th Street subway station is a five-minute walk away. Self-parking is available nearby. The entrance to the hotel recently moved from 30th Street to 29th, so it is worth flagging this with your cab driver.

Following two multimillion-dollar renovations throughout 2015 and 2016, the former Martha Washington Hotel has been reimagined as the trendy new Redbury New York. Charming with "design inspired by 1960's pop music and bohemian counter-culture" (Forbes), the property is a sophisticated addition to a neighbourhood that's vaulted up the chain in recent years when it comes to stylish lodgings. 

Oyster.com argues the hotel's "greatest asset is its location," with the Empire State Building, Madison Square Park and foodie favorites such as Eataly and Grimaldi's within a seven-minute walk. Rooms have been updated with funky boutique furnishings and are on the smaller side, but offer great value for money, especially considering the setting.

While not overrun with amenities, the hotel has a cool cocktail lounge in the lobby, complete with comfy lounge chairs surrounding intimate round tables. Danny Meyer's sought-after Union Square Hospitality Group is responsible for the top-rated Roman-inspired pizzeria, Marta, which warms the dining room with two roaring brick ovens. (You'll want to secure a reservation ahead of time.) The concierge can direct guests to other great dining options nearby -- some run by the same restaurateur.

Children and additional guests: Children 16 and under stay free of charge when sharing parents’ room and using existing bedding (on request). Cot/crib available on request, free of charge for children up to the age of 2. Extra bed available on request in the Superior Queen and larger rooms only: $50 per night. Charges will be added to your bill on checkout.

Pets: Pets are allowed on request with a $150 fee plus an additional $25 per day. Charges will be added to your bill on checkout.

Fees: A nightly incidental hold of $50 will be placed on the credit card presented upon check-in. Any unused portion of the hold will be released upon check-out and, based on your bank or financial institution, could take 7-14 days for the funds to be completely released.

Other Comments: Unfortunately they do not have valet car service and upon arrival there was no one to help you with your luggage. We were woken up at 4 am due to our room's smoke alarm chirping loud every couple of seconds to then have to call the front desk. The maintenance man charged the battery but still kept going off he then had to take it down completely.

Enjoyed Most: It was a very spacious and well kept room. The concierge (who was very young) was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. It was clear he knew New York. That was a bonus.
Other Comments: Having a Doorman would be nice, or at least someone to help you as you arrive. We traveled on a day that was very bad weather (snow), and we're left handling our own bags. I guess with the restaurant entrance sharing the same "outside" entrance as the Hotel, a doorman would find himself very busy, so perhaps that's the reason they don't have one.
