Nobu Hotel Shoreditch is Nobu's debut hotel in Europe, and "the most architecturally interesting new build in London", according to Forbes. Its angular structure is made of glass and steel -- undoubtedly a nod to East London's industrial heritage -- and it belongs to the Nobu brand that was founded by Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Hollywood actor Robert De Niro.
Inside this luxury 5-storey hotel "red and gold inflections are everywhere, including [in] the bespoke gold cabinets which are inspired by bento boxes" (The Daily Telegraph). The venue is licensed for live music, with a DJ booth built into the staircase, which descends into a lofty timber restaurant. Here you can sample celebrity favourites like yellowtail sashimi with jalapeños or black cod miso on butter lettuce, or sip sake in the outdoor courtyard.
There's also a lounge with private booths, while a swanky rooftop bar will open in late 2017. Other facilities include a small garden, a gym, and steam and sauna rooms. Bedrooms have minimalist Japanese-style décor and free Wi-Fi.
Set amid the galleries of East London's urban art scene, the hotel is 10 minutes' walk from Brick Lane's vintage shops, swathes of street art and bagel cafés, as well as Shoreditch House and Liverpool Street Station. You can visit Columbia Road Flower Market or browse the boutiques and stalls at Old Spitalfields Market, which are both 15 minutes' walk away. St Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London are within a 35-minute walk or 20-minute taxi ride of the hotel.
