  • Late checkout until 12pm (worth $17)
  • Fridays and Saturdays are an extra $28
  • It's $155 for an overnight stay, with breakfast, dinner and late checkout

Why We Love It

  • The hotel is a converted cotton mill and has river views
  • Leisure facilities include an Elemis spa, a heated swimming pool, a sauna and a Jacuzzi. There are also tennis and squash courts
  • Bowness-on-Windermere Pier, for Lake Windermere boat trips, is less than 20 minutes' drive away. Coniston Water is around 30 minutes' drive
  • Whitbarrow Nature Reserve, known for its idyllic landscape of limestone crags with a woodland backdrop, is around 20 minutes' drive from the hotel

The Whitewater Hotel & Leisure Club is on the banks of the River Leven, surrounded by mountain fells and picturesque villages. It's less than five minutes' drive from the southern shores of Windermere, England's largest lake.

Lakeland Motor Museum is a few minutes' walk from the hotel, and Lakeland Miniature Village is 15 minutes' drive away. Bowness-on-Windermere Pier, for Lake Windermere boat trips, is less than 20 minutes' drive. We recommend the cruise from Bowness to Ambleside -- the town centre is around 20 minutes' walk from Ambleside Pier, and from there you can follow the signs to see the 70-foot-high waterfall Stock Ghyll Force.

The Lakeside & Haverthwaite line -- a preserved steam-train railway running through picturesque countryside -- is 15 minutes' walk from the hotel, while Whitbarrow Nature Reserve and Coniston Water are both less than 30 minutes' drive. The Old Man of Coniston -- a fell that's over 2000 feet high and a popular hiking destination -- is a 50-minute drive away.

The hotel's Cascades Health Spa & Fitness Club has a heated indoor pool, a Turkish hammam, an Arabian mud temple, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, a gym, and tennis and squash courts.

The Riverside Restaurant offers a fine-dining menu, while The Dolly Blue Bar & Grill -- named after the pigment formerly created within the mill -- offers casual dining.

The hotel itself was very nice, the staff in all areas could not have been more helpful and the food was fabulous. We also had several long walks starting from the hotel which was very enjoyable.

My only worry about returning to this hotel is that the mattress was so uncomfortable that all three couples in my group complained about not getting a good nights sleep, they are very overdue to be replaced and the rooms were a bit tired.

Towels were big and fluffy and the bed linen nice quality food was good in the main restaurant on first night although we had to eat very late (8:15) too late for us. Breakfast was okay.

Room was dark, dingy and extremely hot. Asked for a fan and reception advised would be delivered however it wasn't with no explanation. Carpet was absolutely threadbare all over in fact hurt feet when walking on it. Kept windows wide open for whole visit but still uncomfortably hot. The drains were blocked in the bathroom in both sink and bath so you showered in standing water. The towels were big and fluffy and the sheets were nice quality. Food in restaurant was excellent although main meal was served with wrong sauce (red wine instead of peppercorn). Had poured all over steak by the time I realised and to enable us to eat together advised waiter at the end of meal when he asked if everything was okay. This prompted head waiter to come over with hand on hip and ask what was wrong with meal. I explained and he said oh I wondered why there was a sauce left over in the kitchen and stomped off. Strangest apology ever. The hotel is is the middle of no where and is soul less. We walked several miles (following map) to find somewhere to escape our dingy cell like room however even with help from locals did not find anywhere else. This is the first time I have been dissatsified with a Travelzoo deal.
