Why We Love This Hotel

  • "Stunning sea views and direct access to five miles of sandy beach are just two of the highlights at this popular hotel," says The AA
  • The hotel is recommended by Condé Nast Johansens for its "amazing location" overlooking Saunton Sands -- you can walk right on to the beach from the property
  • You can dine in the 2-AA-Rosette restaurant, which serves locally caught seafood and West Country produce

Saunton Sands Hotel Source Spa and Wellness is a Condé Nast Johansens-recommended property with direct beach access on the North Devon coast. It has a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant and is praised by The Daily Telegraph for being extremely child friendly.

The hotel overlooks the 3.5-mile-long Saunton Sands and the adjacent Braunton Burrows, part of a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve in the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Braunton Burrows, the second-largest sand-dune system in England, is home to a large number of rare plants and animals.

Mathias Oberg, who has worked in many Michelin-starred restaurants, is head chef at the 2-AA-Rosette main restaurant, which has sea views and Art Deco-inspired designs. "Watch the sun set from the terrace or soak up the maritime views from the stylish restaurant with original 1930s chandeliers," says The AA.

Susy Atkins, a familiar face on BBC One's "Saturday Kitchen" and wine columnist for The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine, has worked closely with the hotel to develop its wine list.

The new Source Spa and Wellness centre opened in September, 2018. Facilities include a salt-inhalation steam room, a Finnish aroma sauna, a thalassotherapy pool with beach views, a gift shop and a supervised playroom. Spa treatments are available for a supplement.

The gym was renovated in August, 2018, and guests get complimentary access to daily fitness classes including yoga, pilates, tai chi and meditation. The outdoor pool is open May-September. Stay in a Sea View Room for views of Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows.

Wonderful place, a most enjoyable place right from when you pull up at the car park with the porter helping with the suitcases. All the staff were pleasant and very helpful. Great experience and would throughly recommend it.

our room was overly warm (no aircon) despite turning the radiator off and opening the windows. view from the room was poor which was made worse by scafolding immediately outside of the window.

There was a couple of things we were disappointed with. We complained about the meal deal being a £36 dining credit. We had steak and we’re not told we should have 3 courses for the £36 and had to pay £8 supplement and had no dessert. So we shouldn’t have paid a supplement because we only went £2 over on the dessert. Reception said they had taken this up with you and it should state on booking. The service was slow. Not many people in the restaurant but it just seemed a struggle at breakfast. We were also got out of bed at 9 in the evening to go to reception and sign for stay because they had not come down to dinner to ask us. That said the staff were very friendly and we had a room upgrade.

Great location., overlooking an amazing beach. The hotel has excellent facilities and is well maintained. Everything is clean and looks new.

The food was excellent. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The spa and pool were equal to their photos (very rarely the case) ! The beach was amazing and we walked its full length of three miles twice. There was a Danny Boyle WW1 Pages of the sea commemoration taking place on the beach when we arrived on the 11th and had a birds eye view from the room window which was fantastic to see. Had the breakfast cooked to order on the Monday as the hotel was fairly quiet and a buffet breakfast on the Tuesday. Both of the highest quality. The evening meals were excellent, they use the finest local produce and the steaks are full of flavour and tender. The restaurant looks good with It's Art Deco style. The wine waiter who was on duty on the Monday evening was good fun and very efficient. There was a bit of winter maintenance going on which is to be expected, and a bit of a mix up with a cream tea ! Neither of which put a dampener on things.. Will certainly be going back
