Overview

About 80 miles east of the palm-lined beaches of Los Angeles, Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa is a luxurious mountain retreat. The only AAA 4-Diamond hotel on the lake, the property feels like a private rustic lodge with stone fireplace surrounded by cozy leather chairs and illuminated racks of wine bottles partitioning the lobby and restaurant.

Originally opened in 1923 as the Arlington Lodge, the property joined the Autograph Collection in 2013 thanks to its historic significance and a $26 million renovation. Guest rooms and suites are lovingly appointed with cozy furnishings like velvet upholstered chairs, tufted leather headboards and pillowtop mattress. Room have either one king bed and a seating area with a sofa bed or two queen beds. Modern necessities like flat-screen televisions and coffeemakers are included in all rooms, while many others also have private balconies and fireplaces. Upgraded accommodations have lake views, deep soaking tubs for two and living and dining areas.

The nightly US$20 resort fee covers valet and/or self-parking for all guests, Wi-Fi and use of the modern fitness center, including all group classes. Adjacent to the gym is Spa of the Pines, offering facials, massages and other body treatments. Year-round, guests can take a dip in the outdoor pool and two hot tubs or roast marshmallows around the fire pit. The resort includes a private beach and fishing docks where guests can rent kayaks or take guided tours of the pristine waters.

Wake up to the smell of brewing coffee mingling with mountain air at Aromas, the coffee shop serving breakfast on the waterfront patio. BIN 189 welcomes visitors with a crackling hearth, views of the lake and classic American specialties. Before and after dinner, guests congregate in the lounge for live jazz.

From its location in the San Bernardino Mountains, the hotel is within walking distance of a number of village shops and restaurants. Southern California’s only cross-country skiing area and the largest snow tubing park are both within a 25 minute drive of the hotel. For downhill skiing, guests can reach Big Bear’s two large resorts within an hour’s drive.

The staff was friendly, helpful. This hotel is in desperate need of a facelift. The outside of hotel has discoloration, chipping paint and gutters full of pine needles. Many areas of the hotel are roped off due to unsafe conditions. The carpet in the hotel is worn and dirty. There is no daily maid service. The resort fee is $36 per night for Wi-Fi, self parking and 2 water bottles per day. This hotel has great potential but overpriced as is.

The hotel was well located for walking to Lake Arrowhead Village. Beautiful surroundings, lovely area. HOWEVER, Lake Arrowhead is a PRIVATE LAKE. You may not swim, boat or access the lake without escort. We were unaware of that when booking. Would not go back for that reason.

Much of the hotel was very nice, but the first room we checked in to had water leaking out of the bathroom light. The second room had no grate on the shower drain, just a hole - don't drop anything!! No fan in bathroom, or at least not working. Torn headboard, and the TV remote was extremely basic - no CC (so had to turn up louder than I would have) and guide & info button didn't work, so you had to go to every channel to see what was on. Fairly comfortable beds/pillows, but fitted sheet was too small for mattress and keep coming off the corners.
