Situated on Nob Hill, the InterContinental Mark Hopkins is a stately hotel in an exclusive neighborhood, close to three trolley lines and just minutes from Union Square and Chinatown.
Quickly approaching its centennial, this grand chateau-style hotel has become a San Francisco landmark and, over the years, has played host to luminaries as diverse as Prince Philip, Elvis Presley, and The Rolling Stones.
Top of the Mark, the romantic 19th-floor restaurant, has long been renowned for its panoramic bay vistas -- in fact, Travel + Leisure magazine reports that “it became notorious during World War II … as the location in which service men swooned with their female companions before facing deployment.” Nowadays, evenings are much more upbeat, with Californian cuisine, live entertainment five nights a week, and a renowned 100 Martinis menu. Other first-class facilities include a complimentary car service into the center of town (Monday-Friday from 7am - 9am and 5pm - 8pm) and a 24-hour fitness studio.
Rooms are classically styled and most offer city or harbor views, with the more luxurious rooms occupying the higher floors. To avoid the rumble of the trams, select a room facing the rear. Opt for a room on the Executive Floor and you’ll receive free access to the Club Lounge, where breakfast and snacks are served throughout the day.
